    • A system for forming a discontinuity in a stack of interfolded sheets formed by a pair of folding rolls acting on a stream of overlapping sheets supplied from a pair of feed rolls. At a desired sheet count, the feed rolls and folding rolls are operated to eliminate the overlap between a downstream sheet and an upstream sheet by operating the feed rolls and the folding rolls at a differential rate of speed, which results in advancement of the downstream sheet relative to the upstream sheet. The feed rolls are slowed upon discharge of the downstream sheet, to slow advancement of the upstream sheet while the downstream sheet is moved downstream by the folding rolls. The separation between the downstream and upstream sheets forms a discontinuity in the stack to divide the stack into groups of sheets.

    • A paper web folding and cutting apparatus for a form printing machine includes a paper web traveling path which enables a continuous paper web to travel at a predetermined traveling speed. A cut portion forming device is disposed on the paper web traveling path and is adapted to form a cut portion formed in a line of a plurality of cuts. Each line of the cuts has at least one uncut portion, at every top and bottom directional dimension of the continuous paper web to be folded. Also, an oscillatory shooter assembly is disposed on the paper web traveling path on a downstream side of the cut forming means in a paper web traveling direction. The oscillatory shooter assembly is provided with a counter roller and a nozzle roller at a lower end portion thereof. The rollers are rotated at a peripheral speed which is faster than the paper web traveling speed, and the nozzle roller is movable into and out of contact with the counter roller. The oscillatory shooter assembly performs an oscillatory motion in a bilateral direction with the continuous paper web interposed between the nozzle roller and the counter roller so as to fold, in a zigzag fashion, the continuous paper web along the cut portions. According to this structure, the continuous paper web is cut along the cut portions by pressing the nozzle roller against the counter roller at a timing when the cut portion to be cut approaches an upstream side portion of both the nozzle roller and the counter roller.

The process also includes turning the pair of disks to a second position, accelerating the second cardboard tube up to machine speed, cutting the paper web transversely to a web run direction when a desired winding diameter is achieved on the first cardboard tube thereby producing a second end, and winding the second end of the web onto the second cardboard tube. Moreover, the process includes turning the pair of disks to a third position, stopping the rotation of the first cardboard tube, removing the paper web wound onto the first cardboard tube from the first winding device, and disposing a third cardboard tube onto the first winding device.

    • A flat plastic bag is formed from a side gusseted tubular web. The bag is formed with an open end and a opposite spaced end seal. Hinge crease patterns are formed in each of the gusseted portions at the bottom end of the bag. The pattern includes a two ridge upper leg and a three ridge bottom leg which are formed by a cold sealing process. A bag making machine includes a web supply which is passed through a web feed supply section to form the gusseted web. The gusseted web is sent through a forming section. The segment is first formed with the patterns of two bags in immediately adjacent relationship and located to the opposite sides of a common line defining the end of the adjacent bags. The web is formed into two bag segments with the creases located at each of the segment ends. The web is passed through a unit creating the seal and simultaneously severing the upstream segment. The segments are stacked on a table with each stack sequentially transferred to a punch unit which severs the center portion of the segment to define open bag ends adjacent each other with interconnections to maintain the stack relationship between the separated bags. The formed stack is passed through a separation unit which removes the cut portions thereby separating the bags for transport to a conveyor. The bag may be formed with ventilation openings at the punch unit. The crease pattern with the bottom portion includes a plurality of creases to ensure the proper location of at least one crease within the gusseted portion to ensure easy opening of the plastic bag.
