    • In carbon-in-pulp (CIP) and carbon-in-leach (CIL) processes, especially those utilizing pure oxygen instead of normal air to increase the overall efficiency of the cyanide leaching-adsorption process in the recovery of gold and/or silver from ores, the screen within each tank which surrounds the slurry outlet is kept clean. The cleaning action is accomplished by linearly reciprocating the screen first slowly in one direction, and then quickly in another (to cause back flushing); or by rotating a cleaning rotor on the inside of a cylindrical screen. The cleaning rotor may be connected to the same shaft as an agitator disposed above a draft tube within the tank. The screen surface is tapered in its direction of movement, and during movement has a tendency to transport and concentrate the carbon (charcoal) particles at the far end of the slow stroke, and the concentrated particles can be withdrawn and recirculated to other tanks in the system.

    • A process of manufacture of a lattice configurated elastomer screen for classification, screening and washed of fragmented hard stocks of material. The process of manufacture of this lattice screen employs a cutting device with at least one rotary cutting blade. for extracting mutually spaced slots in the top and bottom layers of an elastomer sheet; with the top slots lying essentially above the bottom slots; being disposed transversely of one another. The top and bottom slots are cut at a common, intersecting depth of one another in the elastomer sheet: joining the bottom slots with the top slots; forming preferably rectangular apertures between the top and bottom slots areas of this lattice designed sifting body.

    • The separation of a first solid component from a mixture thereof with a liquid and a second solid component which is of smaller average particle size than the first solid component, the first and second solid components being in suspension in the liquid and with the percentage by mass of the second solid component being substantially greater than that of the first solid component, by means of a travelling endless cloth. The cloth passes through an operative separating region in a horizontal manner. The mixture is fed onto substantially the entire operative separating region from a feed box that has a floor with apertures therein; the floor being located above the cloth. The liquid and second solid component pass through the cloth, to be collected by a trough. The first solid component remains on the cloth and is subsequently removed and collected. Water is sprayed onto and through the cloth in the separating region, from below, to impede the formation of a cake or layer of the second solid component on the cloth.

    • A rotor for a sorting apparatus for cleaning fibrous suspensions such as produced from the making of paper is described. The rotor is equipped with sorter blades which extend substantially parallel to the axis of rotation and are set at a desired angle relative to the direction of rotation of the rotor so as to create a hydrofoil effect. The sorter blades are mounted to one or more supporting walls shaped in a spiral form to provide spiral surfaces which are coaxial with the axis of rotation of the rotor and impart a conveying motion to the fibrous suspension. Upon rotation of the rotor in a fibrous suspension entanglements by impurities are avoided and the danger of the occurrence of a blockage of the strainer used in the sorter apparatus is reduced.
