    • A synthetic structure is used to simultaneously provide food, shelter and reproductive support for many aquatic species. Synthetic seagrass may be produced in the form of flexible mats with a plurality of ribbons. The lower ends of the ribbons are anchored to the benthos. The other ends of the ribbons are buoyantly supported in the photic zone. The ribbons may be economically produced in plural coextensive layers, with one layer providing buoyancy and the other layer being structured to enhance biological growth. The system may be tailored for use in desired applications by selecting the surface area structure, ribbon spacing and density, and other parameters. The system may be used to remove nutrients and/or toxic materials from water. The invention may be used to simultaneously promote aerobic and anaerobic reactions to control water quality.

    • An artificial barrier reef has a skeletal frame formed from a plurality of support beams. The frame has a base and a plurality of side panels extending from the base to form a pyramid. A plurality of connectors are used to connect the support beams together. A cap connects the support beams and forms the side panels at an apex of said frame. Also, a plurality of grates, each grate connected to cover a respective one of said side panels and including a plurality of bars connected in a criss-cross pattern allow for fish of a predetermined size to pass therethrough into and out of the skeletal frame. The artificial barrier reef is positioned on the floor of a body of water for aiding in the development of an underwater ecosystem pass therethrough into and out of said skeletal frame.

    • An artificial fish habitat for use with a recreational fishpond. The fish habitat is provided as at least one section, having a front panel, a rear panel, a top panel, and a substantially rectangular holder basket which is fitted into an opening within the top panel. For larger ponds, several of the interlocking sections are fitted into one another, thereby providing a fish habitat of larger overall dimensions. A plurality of slotted openings within the panels provide ready egress and ingress for fish. The holder basket is adorned with artificial grasses, thereby providing shelter for juvenile fish. The artificial fish habitat provides shelter to the fish from direct sunlight and also provides a sanctuary from natural predators. The fish habitat includes an aerator hose, which may be selectively attached to an external aerator pump to increase the concentration of dissolved oxygen within the water of the fishpond.

    • A system and method for clam farming includes a supply ship coupled to a clam planter via a supply tube bundle having a plurality of individual tubes. The supply ship has a separation station configured for introducing individual clams into the individual supply tubes at a periodic interval. The clam planter includes an underwater vehicle and a plurality of row components that are slideably engaged with the underwater vehicle. Each of the row components is coupled to one of the individual tubes. As the underwater vehicle travels in a forward direction, the row components plow furrows and transport the individual clams into the furrows as they exit the individual tubes according to the periodic interval. A clam farm results having rows of clams near node points spaced from one another by node and row separation distances.

    • The present invention relates to a recirculating marine aquaculture process for production of a crab species, including (i) a broodstock conditioning, (ii) spawning, (iii) egg incubation, (iv) larval growth, (v) nursery post-larval growth, and (vi) grow-out of the crab to a final product weight, in which each stage (i)-(vi) of the process involves operation in an aqueous medium that is coupled in liquid recirculation relationship with waste component removal from the aqueous medium and returning purified aqueous medium to the external environment. The process involves operation in a closed, recirculating aquaculture system in which photoperiod, water temperature, water chemistry, and diet are optimized and then continuously monitored and controlled to obtain optimal production at each of the six phases (i)-(vi) of the life cycle.
