    • To translate a physical color to a color space of a printer device, a color patch is scanned using a printer's internal scanner. The printer then automatically prints that scanned color, together with a range of variations of that color, on the print media on which printing is to occur. A user may quickly and easily select a color match from the range of colors printed, by visual inspection. The user enters the selected color into the printer, using for example a number or position code, or by marking the selected color on the print media, which is then re-scanned by the printer. Thus, an iterative prior art manual procedure of color modification using color data determined by spectrophotometers is avoided.

    • A system calibrates a computer print image. A page driver receives an image having image properties, such as color scheme, image resolutions, contrast, etc., and sends it to a journal file for storage. A user interface enables selection of a property of the image. A journal file processor generates specific values based on a selected range of values for controlling the characteristics of the selected property. A rendering driver renders a modified version of the image for each generated value, and sends the modified versions to the printer. The user interface enables the selection of a preferred image from the rendered modified images. The journal file processor sends the values of the selected image to the driver settings file for storage. The user interface enables printing of the image using the values stored in the driver settings file, repetition of the above process for the same property over more specific range of values about the property value of the selected image, or repetition of the process for an entirely different property.

    • A color image generating apparatus has a memory circuit for memorizing at least a part of an original image in a test print mode operation of the apparatus. An output circuit is used for reading the memorized image from the memory circuit and repeatedly outputting this image, a plurality of times on one display. Image processing circuit for processing the image with a different print condition at each time of repeatedly outputting the image from the output circuitry is used. A plurality of sample images are each printed in a different print condition and displayed on one test sample print paper so that an optimal desired image is selected from the plurality of test sample images.
