    • A shared network interface controller (NIC) interfaces a plurality of operating system domains as part of the load-store architecture of the operating system domains. A bus interface couples the NIC to a load-store domain bus (such as PCI-Express), using header information to associate data on the bus with an originating operating system domain. Transmit/receive logic connects the NIC to the network. Association logic allows the NIC to designate, and later lookup which destination MAC address (on the Ethernet side) is associated with which operating system domain. Descriptor register files and Control Status Registers (CSR's) specific to an operating system domain are duplicated and made available for each domain. Several direct memory access (DMA) engines are provided to improve throughput. Packet replication logic, filters (perfect and hash) and VLAN tables are used for looping back packets originating from one operating system domain to another and other operations.

    • A system and machine-implemented method for processing data associated with an application running on an electronic device. A server receives an HTTP header from the electronic device. The HTTP header is associated with an application running on the electronic device and specifies a content mode for the application. The content mode identifies a type of server content for a user of the application, and corresponds to at least one of plural modes including a child mode in which the type of server content is for a child user. The server receives a request for content from the electronic device, the request being associated with the application, and accesses content for the application based on the received request. The accessed content is provided for the application running on the electronic device. At least one of the accessing or the providing is based on the identified type of server content.

    • A packet processor for processing an input packet includes an information generator for generating process control information for processing the input packet, an internal packet generator for receiving the input packet as an packet to be processed and adding the process control information to the packet to be processed to produce an internal packet, an internal packet processor for processing the internal packet supplied from the internal packet generator on the basis of the process control information added to the internal packet, and a packet transmitter for extracting an output packet from the internal packet processed by the internal packet processor to transmit the output packet. The packet processor can reduce the amount of communication between modules even when the packet processor includes plural modules.

    • Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for using different MAC addresses in frames for the same station to indicate how to process the frames. In this manner, frames for IEEE 802.11ac can carry information not present in legacy frames (e.g., frames according to IEEE 802.11a/n), but these frames may be interpreted by legacy devices in a legacy way. One example method generally includes receiving a first frame comprising an indication of a first MAC address and processing the received first frame based on the first MAC address. For certain aspects, the method further includes receiving a second frame comprising an indication of a second MAC address, wherein the second MAC address is different than the first address; and processing the received second frame based on the second MAC address, such that the processing of the second frame is different than the processing of the first frame.
