    • A cable splicing closure includes a base having ports for the entry of cables to be spliced, and a tubular cover for sliding axially over a peripheral surface of the base. The surface is formed with a groove which tapers towards the end from which the cover is applied and which carries an O-ring seal that is engaged by the cover and which rolls along the tapering surface of the groove as the cover is slid onto the base. The O-ring seal is rolled substantially more than 50 percent, but less than 100 percent, of its peripheral length when it is rolled into its final sealed position. Thus, the O-ring will exert a force in a direction urging the tubular cover more firmly onto the base.

    • A telecommunications closure (1) includes a pressure clamp (21) for sealingly clamping mating parts (47, 48) of the closure together so as to form a water tight seal. The clamp member requires no tools during installation and creates no uncertainty as to the generation of appropriate clamp pressure on a sealing O-ring when installed. The pressure clamp includes an over-center latch which is rotatable between a first unlatched position and a second latched position, a clamping pressure generated by the latch increasing to a maximum value as the rotatable latch is moved from its first position to an intermediate position between the first and second positions and then decreases from this maximum value as the latch is moved from the intermediate position to the second position so as to generate a predetermined appropriate clamping pressure when in its second position so as to appropriately compress the O-ring disposed within a groove between the closure parts at their mating area.

    • An airtight, watertight, self-contained housing for buried communication lines, such as telephone lines comprising a main cable and service wires, includes a waterproof housing having a base, a ground stake for installing the housing in the ground, separate compartments formed in the housing below the base to separately receive main cable and service wires, a sealed inner splice chamber above the base, and a sealed outer terminal chamber above the base for enclosing the splice chamber and for containing a terminal block. Main cable passes through the base into the splice chamber which includes a support, an elastomeric seal forming a watertight seal between the main cable entering the splice chamber, and an opening to the chamber through the support. A waterproof inner cover joined to the support by a watertight seal forms the sealed splice chamber. The remaining area of the base has separate, removable screw-threaded plugs with O-ring seals to corresponding holes in the base, each for receiving a corresponding service wire. A service wire is installed by removing a sealed plug, passing the service wire through the hole for connection to the terminal block, and forming a watertight seal around the service wire with an elastomeric grommet. A waterproof outer cover is joined to the base by a watertight seal to form a sealed outer terminal chamber that encloses the terminal block and the sealed splice chamber. Another embodiment of the invention provides a terminal for service wire without use of the sealed inner splice chamber.

    • A method and apparatus for sealing a splice enclosure to protect cable splice connections retained therein. The sealing member is a single piece body integrally formed of a suitable material which resists detrimental environmental effects and is resiliently compressible in an axial direction to seal the splice enclosure. Axial compression of the sealing member is employed to create sealing forces both about the outer periphery of the sealing member and between the sealing member and cables projecting therethrough. Reentry into the enclosure does not require destruction of the sealing member and does not require tapes, adhesives or other materials and is hence very time, labor and material efficient.

    • A mounting for a digital service line repeater comprises a housing having a base and a removable cover, electrical components for electrically connecting the line repeater to signal wires, and a fastening device for removably attaching the base of another mounting to the removable cover. The fastening device includes a threaded hole in the cover for receiving a fastener, and the base includes an aperture aligned with the threaded hole for receiving a fastener. The mounting can be stacked on and mounted to a second similar mounting by a fastener passing through the aperture in the base for receipt in the threaded hole in the cover of the second mounting. The cover is removably attached to the base by accessible fasteners at the side walls, and the base includes a slot for receiving the line repeater. The electrical components include an electrical connector at one end of the slot for electrically connecting with the line repeater, and an easy connect wire connector having clamping terminals for electrically and mechanically connecting with signal wires.

    • The box comprises a shallow bowl (1) which is hermetically sealed to a bell-shaped cover (2). Repeaters are housed in individual casings (4) which are fitted into a mother board (3) extending over the greater part of the bowl. Connector tabs (20) are provided through the mother board, with pressure contact points for making electrical contact with the individual repeater casings, and self-stripping prongs for making electrical contact with the insulated wires of a cable (8). This arrangement leads to very few connections being made in the path between a cable conductor and a repeater, and enables the box to be wired to a cable on site and without soldering.
