    • An integrated coupler may vertically integrate a hybrid coupler and a directional coupler. The hybrid coupler may include a first quarter-wave metallic strip dielectrically coupled to a second quarter-wave strip. The directional coupler may include the second quarter-wave metallic strip dielectrically coupled to a third metallic strip. The first quarter-wave metallic strip may receive a first input signal. The second quarter-wave metallic strip may receive a second input signal, and it may superimpose the first quarter-wave metallic strip along a vertical space, so as to combine power received from the first input signal and the second input signal to form an output signal. The third quarter-wave metallic strip may superimpose the second quarter-wave metallic strip along the vertical space, so as to sample the output signal of the second quarter-wave metallic strip.

    • A radio frequency (RF) communication device may include an RF 90-degree hybrid combiner having stable phase and loss characteristics over greater than one octave of bandwidth, while providing a high degree of isolation between input and isolated port. The structure may include a first element and a second element. The first element includes a first port, a first section for phasing matching, a second section for conductive-layer inversion, a third section for phase-matching section, and a third port. The second element includes a fourth port, a fourth section for phasing matching, a fifth section for conductive-layer inversion, a sixth section for phase-matching, and a second port. In one example, the second and fifth sections are utilized for signal coupling. In another example, the first, third, fourth, and sixth sections are utilized for signal coupling. Different ports may have matched phase differences.

    • A coupler assembly may include first and second electromagnetic couplers connected together. In some examples, the couplers may be connected in cascade configuration, with at least the second coupler including at least third and fourth couplers connected in tandem configuration. In some examples, a first asymmetric coupler may include a plurality of coupler sections connected in cascade configuration, and a second coupler connected to the first coupler in tandem configuration. In some examples, a coupler assembly may include first and second transmission lines having respective conductors electromagnetically coupled in a plurality of serially connected coupler sections, which sections have coupled portions with substantially the same cross-sectional configuration and lengths that are progressively longer or shorter in successive coupled portions.

    • An HF plasma process excitation configuration includes an HF generator that is connected to a plasma load through a directional coupler. The directional coupler includes a transmission line, a first coupling line for detecting reflected power from the plasma load, and a second coupling line for detecting forward power from the HF generator, is the first coupling line is spaced apart from the transmission line and is terminated at least at one end with a termination resistance. Each coupling line has a predetermined and adjusted characteristic impedance, and the termination resistances each have a resistance value that corresponds within a tolerance to the characteristic impedance of the associated coupling line with a tolerance.

    • Couplers are disclosed that include first and second mutually coupled conductors. The coupled conductors may be regular or irregular in configuration, and for example, may be linear, including rectilinear or with one or more curves, bends or turns, such as forming a ring, coil, spiral or other loop. One or more sections of a coupler may be on different levels and separated by a dielectric medium, such as air or a dielectric substrate. Coupled conductors may be facing each other on the same or spaced-apart dielectric surfaces, such as opposing surfaces of a common substrate, and each conductor may include one or more portions on each side or surface of a substrate. In some examples, a coupler may include plural coupled sections, with conductors in one section being only broadside coupled, and conductors in another section being edge-coupled.
