摘要： A method for encapsulating a fuel rod or a fuel rod section in a container includes inserting the fuel rod or fuel rod section into the container. One of the ends of the container is connected to a purging-gas line. The container is dehydrated and purged by use of a purging gas. The ends of the container are connected to a bypass line in such a way that a closed gas circuit is produced and a hot gas is circulated in the gas circuit until the absolute moisture content reaches an end value at which the absolute moisture content no longer rises. The container is disconnected from the gas circuit and subsequently the container is closed in a fluid-tight manner at both ends.

摘要： Disclosed is a zirconium alloy material having high corrosion resistance regardless of thermal history during its manufacturing process. The zirconium alloy material is obtained by providing a zirconium alloy containing on the mass basis: 0.001% to 1.9% of Sn, 0.01% to 0.3% of Fe, 0.01% to 0.3% of Cr, 0.001% to 0.3% of Ni, 0.001% to 3.0% of Nb, 0.027% or less of C, 0.025% or less of N, 4.5% or less of Hf and 0.16% or less of O with the remainder being inevitable impurities and zirconium, being formed of a bulk alloy and a surface layer, in which the surface layer has a plastic strain of 3 or more or a Vickers hardness of 260 HV or more and an arithmetic mean surface roughness Ra of 0.2 μm or less.

The spacers are equipped with devices that exert a swirling impulse upon a coolant flowing along the fuel rods. In order to present as little flow resistance as possible for the coolant, these swirl-introducing devices have the form of a vane with a spoonlike or bladelike shape and they extend into the coolant flow. Owing to the shape—here the vane is curved in the longitudinal and in the transverse directions—practically all cross sections of the vane have such a high geometrical moment of inertia that even a vane made of a thin sheet metal is sufficiently rigid. Fuel elements configured according to the invention are particularly suitable for use in boiling water nuclear reactors.

摘要： A spacer for use with a protective grid of a fuel assembly of a nuclear reactor is a generally washer-shaped plate of material having an engagement surface and a retention surface opposite one another. The protective grid is formed of a plurality of straps to define a plurality of fuel rod cells and a plurality of thimble cells, with the straps adjacent the thimble cells being notched to receive the spacer therein. The retention surface of the spacer is disposed against the notches, and the engagement surface of the spacer protrudes outwardly from the protective grid. When the engagement surfaces of the spacers are engaged against a lower nozzle of a fuel assembly of a nuclear reactor, the spacers space the protective grid from the lower nozzle. The spacer is integrally welded with the protective grid in a single arranging and welding operation.
