摘要： A video tape recorder wherein the video signal is recorded on the tape as a frequency-modulated signal. The video recorder comprises a transport for the tape which is constructed suitably for reversing the direction of tape movement during signal recording and reproducing. The video signals are successively transduced on or from longitudinally extending parallel tracks on the tape. Initiating of the reverse movement of tape is improved by the use of a special high frequency signal. Said frequency also could be higher than the upper frequencies which can still be transduced by the used magnetic head at playback. Easily manufactured circuits are provided for the highly accurate detection of the special high frequency signal. Said frequency should be in a higher frequency range than the highest frequency of the video signals, more exactly above the white level of the video signals.

摘要： A cartridge tape drive system comprises a capstan drive shaft, a flywheel mounted thereon, a tape drive motor coupled to the flywheel by means of a belt looped about the flywheel and drive shaft of the tape drive motor and further, a fast-forward tape drive arrangement. The last-mentioned arrangement comprises first and second pulley wheels, one mounted on the capstan shaft an the other on the drive motor output shaft and a pair of oneway clutches. In a preferred embodiment, a first one of the clutches couples the second pulley wheel and motor drive shaft and the second clutch couples the capstan shaft and flywheel. The pulley wheels are coupled by a second belt looped thereabout in a figure eight or crossed over configuration. In normal play, the drive motor is energized in a first sense to rotate the output shaft in a first direction. The first one-way clutch is engaged and the second is disengaged to drive the flywheel and capstan in a first direction at a first playback speed. For fast-forward, the electrical connections to the drive motor are reversed to rotate the output shaft in the opposite direction. At this time, the first one-way clutch is decoupled and the second is engaged to impart to the capstan shaft, through the pulley wheels and crossed over belt, rotation in the first direction, but at a speed greater than the normal playback speed.

摘要： This invention relates to a magnetic tape cartridge system including a playback unit having dual capstans and a magnetic tape cartridge having openings positioned to receive the dual capstans during the replay of the magnetic tape cartridge by the playback unit. The dual capstans may be rotated in either of one of two opposite directions. The direction of rotation is controlled by the insertion of the magnetic tape cartridge into the playback unit and the direction of rotation is in accordance with the orientation of the magnetic tape cartridge. When the magnetic tape cartridge is inserted in the first orientation, the capstans are rotated in the first direction to replay one half the information on the tape. When the cartridge is turned upside down to be in the second orientation the capstans are rotated in the second direction to replay the remaining information on the tape. The playback unit includes means for sensing the orientation of the tape cartridge in order to properly determine which direction to rotate the capstans. The invention also includes the use of a spring-loaded pinch roller and idler roller mounted at the opposite ends of a single leaf spring so as to absorb shock and vibration and reduce wow and flutter. In addition, the invention includes positioning means on the cartridge which cooperate with corresponding means on the playback unit so as to enable the playback unit to replay cartridges of different sizes.

摘要： High performance is obtained without preventing achievement of a target read data rate.In a controller 16 of a tape drive, a command processing unit 41 receives a synchronization command, and a buffer management unit 42 passes data in a buffer to a channel input-output unit 43. Then, upon completion of writing the data to the tape, a backhitch determination unit 44 determines whether or not to execute backhitch. If it is determined that backhitch should be skipped, the speed determination unit 46 determines a tape speed that minimizes a sum of a time required to write data without backhitch within a range where a data amount of a monitor target is to be written in order to achieve a target read data rate, and a time required to write data with backhitch within the range. Then, an operation signal output unit 49 issues an instruction to change the tape speed to the determined tape speed after execution of backhitch.
