    • If a pitch bend event is included in a note event, one tone to be sounded in accordance with the note event continuously varies in pitch from a note pitch designated by the note event to another note pitch, as a result of control response to the pitch bend event. For sounding of a note based on an accompaniment pattern, harmony note or the like, the pitch corresponding to the note event is converted in accordance with a designated chord, and thus, not only the note pitch corresponding to the note event but also the other note pitch responsive to the pitch bend event should be converted appropriately.     • Despite many practical limitations imposed by mobile device platforms and application execution environments, vocal musical performances may be captured and continuously pitch-corrected for mixing and rendering with backing tracks in ways that create compelling user experiences. In some cases, the vocal performances of individual users are captured on mobile devices in the context of a karaoke-style presentation of lyrics in correspondence with audible renderings of a backing track. Such performances can be pitch-corrected in real-time at a portable computing device (such as a mobile phone, personal digital assistant, laptop computer, notebook computer, pad-type computer or netbook) in accord with pitch correction settings. In some cases, pitch correction settings include a score-coded melody and/or harmonies supplied with, or for association with, the lyrics and backing tracks. Harmonies notes or chords may be coded as explicit targets or relative to the score coded melody or even actual pitches sounded by a vocalist, if desired.

To facilitate the foregoing, techniques have been developed for capture and audible rendering of vocal performances on handheld or other portable devices using signal processing techniques suitable given the somewhat limited capabilities of such devices and in ways that facilitate efficient encoding and communication of such captured performances via ubiquitous, though bandwidth limited, wireless networks and through communication channels typical of the wired and wireless telephony networks.

    • Spectrum envelope of an input sound is detected. In the meantime, a converting spectrum is acquired which is a frequency spectrum of a converting sound comprising a plurality of sounds, such as unison sounds. Output spectrum is generated by imparting the detected spectrum envelope of the input sound to the acquired converting spectrum. Sound signal is synthesized on the basis of the generated output spectrum. Further, a pitch of the input sound may be detected, and frequencies of peaks in the acquired converting spectrum may be varied in accordance with the detected pitch of the input sound.
