    • A vibration damper includes a cylinder within which a piston is slidably received thereby defining compression and rebound chambers. The piston has a bore with a valve seat through which fluid flows between those chambers. A poppet selectively engages the valve seat and forms a pilot chamber an opposite side of the poppet from the valve seat. The greater pressure within the compression or rebound chambers is applied by a first logic arrangement to the pilot chamber and a pilot spool control a fluid flow between the pilot chamber and a pressure cavity in the piston body. A second logic arrangement connects the pressure cavity to either the compression and rebound chamber which has the lesser pressure. A solenoid that moves the pilot valve element to control pressure in the pilot chamber and thus the amount that the poppet moves to allow fluid flow through the piston.

    • A damping device for an electromagnetic valve control of an internal combustion engine has a pressure chamber, a hydraulic supply line communicating with a first pressure chamber and supplying the pressure chamber with a hydraulic medium. A damping piston is positioned at one side of the pressure chamber and is moveable relative to the pressure chamber. A moveable mass acts on the damping piston. When the damping piston is moved in a first direction by the moveable mass from a rest position into the first pressure chamber, the hydraulic medium is initially displaced from the pressure chamber into the hydraulic supply line until the hydraulic supply line is closed off by the damping piston and a hydraulic pressure is generated in the pressure chamber to create a force acting counter to the movement of the moveable mass.

    • A shock absorber has an arrangement for bringing about different kinds of damping characteristics, in response to external controls and independently of how the piston speed varies. The shock absorber comprises a piston which works in a cylinder (2) and which has a passage between upper and lower sides (1a, 1b) of the piston. The changes in the damping characteristics are obtained by a restriction in a channel through which a shock absorber medium or fluid flows. A first valve element (7) exerts an influence on the restriction in response to a first pressure which is created by a pilot flow running between the upper and lower sides at the piston. The pilot flow is determined by a second valve element (8) which is controllable by electrical control signal. The first valve element (7) comprises a spring-loaded, pressure-operated slide, the instantaneous position of which is counterbalanced by the first pressure and a second pressure originating from the pressure differential existing between the upper and lower sides of the piston. The second valve element interacts with a proportional magnet which provides a setting of the first pressure that is independent of the variation in the piston speed.

    • A shock-absorber is designed to be used in particular with a motor cycle or a motor car. The shock-absorber is so arranged as to permit the variation of the shock-absorbing capacity or the resistance of the shock-absorber by use of control impulses from an external computerized unit. The shock-absorber is of the kind which comprises cylinder operating with a fluid or with fluid gas. Inside the cylinder is a fixed piston which is provided with at least one passageway. In this passageway fluid is able to flow from one side of the piston to its other side, and vice versa. The piston has built into it a member capable of being controlled by the control unit and so arranged as to vary depending on the control impulses received from the control unit and so arranged as to vary depending on the control impulses received from the control unit the cross-sectional area of the passageway, causing a variation in the shock-absorbing capacity.

    • An adjustable shock absorber for motor vehicles comprises a cylinder containing damping fluid, a piston rod arranged to be axially displaceable in the cylinder, and a damping piston secured to the inner end of the piston rod. The damping piston divides the cylinder chamber into two working chamber compartments and is provided with fluid flow passages which produce damping forces, the effective cross-section of these flow passages being controllable by a throttling member and an electromagnetic drive controlling the throttling member, with the electromagnetic drive including a coil winding which is mounted in the damping piston. In order to achieve improved control of the damping force the throttling member is under the influence on the one hand of the fluid pressure difference between the two working chamber compartments and on the other hand of a restoring force which is created by the electromagnetic drive. Preferably, a hydraulic compensating device which reinforces this restoring force is provided between the throttling member and the electromagnetic drive which counteracts the hydraulic displacement of the throttling member.
