摘要： A supercharging device is provided for an internal combustion engine that has at least one exhaust gas turbocharger (1, 2) and at least one charge air cooler (LLK) arranged in the outflow of the exhaust gas turbocharger (1, 2). An additional electrically driven compressor (e-booster 6, 7) is arranged downstream of the charge air cooler (LLK) in a bypass (5) to the main flow line (3) to the throttle valve (4) of the internal combustion engine. The main flow line (3) can be closed by a check valve (9) that acts in the direction of a return flow.

Charge air is provided by the first exhaust-gas turbocharger (13a, 13b) in single-charger operation, but is provided by the first and second exhaust-gas turbocharger (13a, 13b; 14a, 14b) in two-charger operation. To switch from single-charger to two-charger operation above a load threshold value of the internal combustion engine (10), when a speed of the internal combustion engine (10) reaches or overshoots a threshold value, a charge pressure is increased to build up a torque reserve and a charge pressure reserve and to maintain a driver demand torque. When the charge pressure reaches or overshoots a threshold value, a switch is made from single-charger operation to two-charger operation, and subsequently, the torque reserve and the charge pressure reserve are eliminated.

The air handling system may also include a cooling assembly connected to the first, second, and third turbochargers. The air handling system may further include a first passage fluidly connecting the first turbocharger to a first side surface of the cooling assembly, and a second passage fluidly connecting the second turbocharger to a second side surface of the cooling assembly opposite the first side surface. The first and second passages may be configured to direct compressed air into the cooling assembly in generally opposite directions.
