    • A master making device of the present invention includes a thermal head having a plurality of heating elements arranged in an array in the main scanning direction. A platen roller forms a nip between it and the thermal head for pressing a stencil. The platen roller is rotatable for moving the stencil in the subscanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction. The position of the array of heating elements in the subscanning direction is deviated, within the nip, from the center of the platen roller to the downstream side in the subscanning direction to thereby reduce the length of the perforated portion of the stencil to be moved in the nip. The device is capable of providing a master with an accurate length without regard to the kind of the stencil and insuring stable conveyance of the stencil.

    • There is disclosed a heat sensitive type printer wherein glass plates (36, 37, 38) are secured at one ends to thermal heads (26, 27, 28), and extend substantially in parallel to a paper transport path of a heat sensitive color recording paper (14). Surface luminous devices (31, 32) for fixing coloring layers of the recording paper optically are disposed adjacent to heat sinks of the thermal heads with their light emission surfaces facing the paper transport path through the glass plates. Cooling fans send air into between the heat sinks and the surface luminous devices, to cool the heat sinks. Thereafter, the air guide guides the air to flow along a gap between the light emission surface and the glass plate, thereby to cool the light emission surface.

    • A heat-sensitive stencil master making apparatus for making a stencil master by imagewise perforating thermoplastic film of heat-sensitive stencil master material according to an image on an original includes a thermal head which has an array of a plurality of heater elements and is brought into thermal contact with the thermoplastic film. Heater elements selected from the array of the heater elements according to the image on the original are applied with an electric voltage so that perforations are formed in the parts of the thermoplastic film of the heat-sensitive stencil master material in contact with the selected heater elements. A continuous electric voltage is applied to each of the selected heater elements to heat the heater element to a predetermined temperature in a predetermined temperature range adequate to thermally perforate the thermoplastic film and then an intermittent electric voltage is applied to the heater element so that the temperature of the heater element is held in the predetermined temperature range for a predetermined time interval adequate to thermally perforate the thermoplastic film.

    • There is provided a thermal recording apparatus which includes a pre-heating section for heating a thermal recording material to a temperature 6 to 20° C. lower than a color forming temperature; a heat recording section for recording an image by heating the pre-heated thermal recording material imagewise; and a post-heating section for heating the thermal recording material to a temperature lower than the color forming temperature. The thermal recording apparatus uses the thermal recording material having a thermal image forming layer that includes a heat-reducing metallic compound, and optionally at least one of a reducing agent of the heat-reducing metallic compound, a dye for infrared absorption and a toner. This apparatus is capable of performing highly sensitive image recording using a thermal recording material having an image forming layer in which an image is formed with a heat-reducing metallic compound. Furthermore, black tone images can be formed.

    • A thermal master making device includes a thermal head having a plurality of heating elements arranged in an array in the main scanning direction. The thermal head is caused to contact a stencil including a thermoplastic resin film. While the master is fed at a preselected feed pitch in the subscanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction, the heating elements selectively heat and perforate the film of the stencil in accordance with image data to thereby form an image in the stencil in the form of a dot pattern. A pitch at which the heating elements are arranged and the feed pitch are substantially equal to each other. The heating elements each have a length in the subscanning direction smaller than one-half of the feed pitch inclusive and have a length in the main scanning direction greater than the length in the subscanning direction. The device is capable of stably forming desired perforations in the stencil and extending the life of the heating element and therefore the life of the head. In addition, the device needs a minimum of master making time and therefore operates at a high speed.
