    • There is disclosed a printing system for processing an electronic document with an original stream having at least two printing related instructions. Responsive to reading the at least two printing related instructions with a controller; the original stream is split into two or more streams. A printer produces (1) one or more sets of prints from one or more of the two or more streams for storage in one or more inserters, and (2) a final set of prints from another one of the two or more streams, the final set of prints corresponding to a hardcopy stream with at least one gap. The one or more sets of prints are automatically stored in the one or more inserters and, pursuant to printing the final set of prints; the one or more inserters are used to insert at least one print from the one or more sets of prints into the at least one gap of the hardcopy stream.

    • A print control apparatus to discharge sheets printed by a printing unit to discharging destinations. The print control apparatus includes a first determination unit, a second determination unit, and a selecting unit. When an input print job is to be executed by the printing unit, the first determination unit determines how many sheets are to be discharged, corresponding to a single copy based on the print job. The second determination unit determines how many discharging destinations are required for discharging the determined number of sheets. If the determined number of discharging destinations is a multiple value, the selecting unit selects multiple discharging destinations located closest to each other as discharging destinations for the sheets printed. The multiple discharging destinations are selected by the selecting unit before the printing unit begins printing operation based on the print job.

    • The disclosed embodiments are directed to the printing of mixed output jobs automatically as a single integrated job. More particularly, a merging module connects two print systems, for example, at approximately 90 degrees to one another, although other configurations are possible. The merging module includes at least one sheet rotator in a plane that is common to both the paper paths of both print engines. It also includes at least two bypass paths (one above and one below the rotator) to route the two paper paths around the rotator and enable both print engines to deliver their output to the appropriate finishing device.

    • An inkjet printing apparatus that can perform printing with a single printing speed even in a case of being connected with a post-processing apparatus having a different transport speed, and that can suppress increased apparatus costs. A discharge transport portion positioned at a connection side of a post-processing apparatus of the inkjet printing apparatus is constituted by transport roller pairs and discharge roller pairs, and is capable of being driven independently from the inkjet transport portion. When the transport speed of the post-processing apparatus is different from the printing speed, printed papers are temporarily stopped at the discharge transport portion. After this, transport recommences with a predetermined timing matched to the transport speed of the post-processing apparatus, and papers are fed to the post-processing apparatus. In a case of continuous printing, a distance between the papers (paper feeding interval) is adjusted in the inkjet printing apparatus to enable transport jams to be avoided.
