    • A compacting facility for bulk goods is disclosed. In order to generate flakes of homogeneous quality, the bulk good is conveyed to a roller press (4) via a screw conveyor (5). The roller press (4) is supplied with bulk goods of differing quality from two shafts (7,9) positioned one behind the other, the screw conveyor (5) being underfed from the first shaft (9) in the direction of conveyance with granulate, which is not suitable for further processing, arising after the roller press (4) and the rest of the feeding being from the last shaft (7) in the direction of conveyance.

    • The present invention is a method of loading a desired amount of powder material into a mold which comprises a tubular body having a bore extending therethrough to define a mold cavity. The method comprises the steps of: providing the mold with a lower press core fitted in the lower end of the bore; bringing the mold with said lower press core fitted therein to a powder filling position; displacing the lower press core relative to the mold so as to determine the depth of the top surface of the lower press core from the top surface of the mold; filling an amount of powder material into the mold and strickling off any excessive amount of powder material to the level of the top surface of the mold; pressing at a desired pressure the amount of powder material in the mold to form a powder compact; and displacing the powder compact with the lower press core relative to the mold so as to bring the powder compact to a desired position in the mold.

    • A method and apparatus for filling generally cylindrical molds with powder particles is disclosed. A stream of powder particles is fed into a mold, and the powder particles are compacted in spirally formed layers so that the particles are compacted continuously in localized adjacent areas. The powder filling apparatus is comprised of a blade means configured to direct powder particles to spread evenly in the mold and urge the powder particles to compact while the blade means is rotated about an axis. A shaft is attached to the blade means for rotation of the blade means about the axis. A chuck means is slideably mounted on the shaft means through an axial channel, the chuck means being configured for applying force to the shaft while permitting movement of the shaft axially through the channel. A drive means is operatively connected to the chuck means for applying force to rotate the chuck about the axis. The powder particles are filled to a high and uniform fill density by the powder filling method and apparatus of this invention.
