摘要： This invention provides a biodegradable and bioabsorbable implant material having a high mechanical strength wherein its shape after deformation within ordinary temperature range can be fixed and maintained so that its shape can be easily adjusted at the site of operation, and it has substantially no anisotropy in view of strength so that it does not cause whitening, breakage and sharp decrease in strength when its bending deformation is repeated in any direction and it has toughness. Particularly, it provides an implant material which comprises a biodegradable and bioabsorbable crystalline polymer that has a crystallinity of 5% or more, can effect deformation such as bending or twisting within ordinary temperature range and has a shape-keeping ability to fix and maintain the shape after deformation as such, wherein molecular chains, domains of molecular chain assembly or crystals of the polymer are oriented along a large number of reference axes having different axial directions, or clusters having these reference axes having different orientation are assembled in a large number.

The prosthesis also includes a head (8) which has a radius of curvature complementary to the cavity in the acetabular cup (2). The head (8) is typically made of metal. A neck (10) is connected to the head (8) joining the head (8) to the stem (12). The head (8), and the acetabular cup (2) are designed to allow a great deal of angular articulation. The bearing portions can be made with radiation treated ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene polymer having substantially no detectable free radicals.

A block of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is irradiated with sufficient radiation energy to crosslink at least a portion of the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The block is heated and pressed against the complimentary articulating bearing surface, thereby forming the articulating bearing surface.

摘要： A cold isopressing method in which first and second layers of at least two layers are formed within an isopressing mold and the second of the layers is isostatically pressed against the first of the layers to compact the second layer. The layers can be formed from different materials, for instance granular materials or slurries. Each layer can additionally have different levels of materials. The granular materials can have pore formers to produce intermediate porous layers. Channel forming materials can be positioned between layers during isopressing. Alternatively, the first layers can be preformed by extrusion, slip casting or injection isopressing molding. One or more of the layers can have two or more regions of different ceramic materials.

摘要： A composite allograft press comprises a loading frame and a two piece mold to form an composite allograft and in particular an acetabular cup from impacted cancellous bone chips and cement. Pressure is applied by a manually operated lever through a rack-and-pinion gear mechanism to a plunger attached to one part of the mold. Compression load switches in-line with the plunger indicate the correct loading to the mold to produce a composite allograft in which the inner surface is smooth and comprised essentially of hardened bone cement material. The outer portion of the allograft may have limited cement extrusions but the exterior of the cup primarily shows exposed cancellous bone surface. In surgery a composite allograft; e.g., an acetabular cup, is fixed in the acetabulum with bone screws to fill an acetabular defect. A plastic liner is affixed with bone cement directly to the composite allograft cup to receive the femoral component.

摘要： A production method of a forged component made of a composite material in accordance with the present invention comprises packing pellet or powdery plastic particles, plastic particles coated on the surface with a metallic material or molten plastic material into a cylinder member made of a metallic material, fixing the cylinder member having the plastic material packed thereinto under the closed state by a sheet member made of a metallic material and equipped with an air vent or air vents so as to form an assembly, setting the assembly into a first mold and pressuring a second mold to the assembly so as to forge and mold the assembly into a predetermined shape.The forged component made of a composite material and producedin accordance with the present invention is light in weight and can be used preferably for producing engage components having high heat-resistance such as a piston. Moveover, if this forged component is a reciprocating component such as a piston, the number of revolutions of an engine can be increased, the striking noise during the engine operation can be reduced and engine performance can be improved.

The sheet material is softened by heating and disposed between male and female dies which are moved together to fold the sheet material over the male die to form the downturned rim. The material forming the rim is compressed and sheared between the dies to force material into a bead cavity in the male die to form the bead. The molded lid can fit over the top edge of a container with the bead in sealing engagement with the container.
