    • The present invention includes a spiral forming step causing a substantially liner elongated member, which is conveyed toward one side in a longitudinal direction of the elongated member by a pair of conveying rollers, to be engaged at one side in a second direction with a pressing member movable in the second direction so that a spiral body including the fixed coil part, the first movable coil part and the second movable coil part is formed from the linear elongated member. The spiral forming step is configured to control the position of the pressing member with respect to the second direction, while recognizing, based on a signal from a rotational speed sensor for detecting the rotational speed of the conveying roller, a relationship between a position in the longitudinal direction of the elongated member that is engaged with the pressing member and the position in the circumferential direction after the spiral body is formed.

    • A wire feeder driving mechanism capable of driving a wire feeder of a spring manufacturing machine to perform a three-dimensional movement. The spring manufacturing machine includes a machine base and a work table. The work table has an opening and a plurality of tool seats. The opening provides the feeding chuck of the wire feeder a moving space. The tool seat is provided to install a tool set to move back and forth on the work table. The wire feeder is assembled with a plurality of axial driving devices. The axial driving device is able to receive power and to move perpendicular to each other. The metal wire led through the wire feeder is thereby able to approach the tool seat in a three-dimensional manner. The spring manufacturing machine is therefore able to produce various complicated springs.

    • A high production method and apparatus which utilizes ribbon-like resistance wire to produce spiral wound electrical heating coils as used in cigar lighters, ignitor plugs and the like. Nesting of adjoining convolutions, if desired, can be effected by first imparting a transverse, ribbed configuration to the ribbon prior to the winding of the same into the spiral coil. In accomplishing this transverse configuring, cooperable male and female rolls, turning in opposite directions, form the ribbon and simultaneously cut it into lengths at a high production rate. After an annealing process, the cut strips of ribbon are fed to a coiling machine which has a notched arbor that receives end portions of the strips and coils the latter into a spiral shape while restraint is imposed on the strips. The feeding, confining, winding and ejection procedures involving the strips are automatically, sequentially carried out at a high production rate.
