    • A balance bar device is provided which facilitates the removal, replacement, and transporting of wrapper roll assemblies of a strip coiling machine by means of an overhead crane. The balance bar is releasably interconnectable with a wrapper roll assembly at one of the opposite ends thereof. The balance bar is supported by an overhead crane and provides for the wrapper roll assembly to be transported to and from the coiling machine and supported with respect thereto during removal and replacement operations in a manner which guarantees a desired orientation of the wrapper roll head with respect to the coiling machine. The balance bar, when carried alone by an overhead crane, is supported in a manner which provides a desired orientation with respect to the wrapper roll assembly so as to facilitate its engagement with and subsequent disengagement from the assembly.

    • A strip coiling machine is disclosed comprising a frame, a mandrel rotatably supported for receiving sheet metal to be coiled thereon, and pairs of rotatable wrapper rolls parallel to the mandrel and cooperable therewith to form the inital wraps of a coil of sheet metal on the mandrel. Each pair of wrapper rolls is supported by a carriage movable transversely of the mandrel axis, and the wrapper rolls each have opposite ends independently supported with respect to the corresponding carriage for adjustment of the position of the opposite ends of the wrapper roll relative to the mandrel. The adjustable support provides for aligning, or intentionally misaligning the mandrel and wrapper roll axes. The mechanism further includes apron members mounted on the carriage and pivotal relative to the mandrel for cooperation with the wrapper rolls and mandrel to form the initial wraps of a coil. The pivot axes of the aprons are adjustable relative to the corresponding carriage to provide for adjustment of the apron face relative to the outer surface of the mandrel.

    • A winding device suitable for winding at least one strip on a mandrel. According to one embodiment the winding device includes a pressure assembly configured to press a strip against the surface of the mandrel when winding the strip. The pressure assembly comprises a first pressure unit which is coupled to and rotates together with the mandrel from a first winding position to a second winding position while the first pressure unit presses on the strip. The pressure assembly further comprises a second pressure unit that is attached to the first pressure unit, and that is configured for pressing on the strip when the first pressure unit reaches the second winding position, allowing forward movement of the strip in the winding direction when the mandrel rotates.
