    • An apparatus is disclosed for cleaning filters used in air breathing machinery. The apparatus is adapted to clean filters that are either contaminated or dirty on the inside surface of its filter medium or on the outside. For this purpose, the filter is placed in a first chamber of a housing wherein it is rotatably supported and wherein there is a vacuum established if the filter surface is dirty on the outside and wherein alternatively a vacuum is established on the inside of the filter if the filter is dirty on the inside surface. This establishes the fact that cleaning air moves through the filter medium in the direction of its contamination. In order to aid in dislodging any contaminants, vibrating hammers are provided on the outside or on the inside of the surfaces of the filters. When the filter surface is dirty on the inside surface, a hammer will operate on the outside of the filter surface and if a filter is dirty on its outside surface, the hammer will operate on the inside surface of the filter medium. All operating elements of the apparatus are contained in one housing making the apparatus a stand-alone unit.

    • A dust separator including a cylindrical housing that is separated by a pair of spaced apart tube sheets into an upper incoming air distributor, an intermediate tube compartment and a lower settling chamber. Large diameter air permeable filter tubes are suspended between the tubes to conduct airborne particles and dust captured inside the tubes into the settling chamber. A dirty air inlet is provided in the distributor while an air outlet connected to a blower is mounted in the lower part of the tube compartment. The blower draws air from the distributor through the tube walls so that the air is cleansed of airborne materials. A perforated control baffle is placed in front of the discharge opening to provide for a uniform and even flow of air through the tubes.

    • An internal loading cylindrical air filter apparatus having a circular tubular knit pile fabric filter element extending unsupported between end plates to provide an essentially full length unobstructed filter area, and having a rotating internal suction cleaning nozzle therefor.     • The air filter and vacuum cleaning system includes an air filter unit having partitions and filtering material arranged to define a plurality of air channels between the air entrance and exit ends of the filter. The filter material itself is in the form of a cloth strip of fibrous material such as glass fibers and is wound back and forth about the ends of the partitions adjacent the entrance and exit openings of the filter to provide folds. A vacuum cleaning head is mounted for movement across the entrance end of the filter, the head having a vacuum slot cooperating with the air channels and folds of the filter material to result in high velocity air which will pick up and move slugs of accumulated impurities on the inner folds of the filter material adjacent the air exit end. Some of the impurities themselves exert a scrubbing action on the filter material forming part of the channel walls so that the entire filter unit can be cleaned by one sweep of the vacuum head without the necessity of inserting a vacuum head between the various folds of the filter material.
