    • A surface cleaning apparatus comprises a floor cleaning head having a dirty air inlet, a cleaning brush and a brush motor. An air flow passage extending from the dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet. An upper section is moveably mounted to the surface cleaning head between an storage position and an in use position. The upper section comprises a cleaning unit including a suction motor positioned in the air flow passage. At least one of the upper section and the cleaning unit is removably mounted to the floor cleaning head in a preset orientation. When the surface cleaning apparatus is assembled, the cleaning unit is spaced from the floor cleaning head. An alignment member is provided on the surface cleaning apparatus. The alignment member requires the one of the upper section and the cleaning unit to be in the preset orientation when mounted on the floor cleaning head. An electrical conductive member is electrically connected to the brush motor and releaseably electrically connected to the cleaning unit. The electrically conductive member is automatically connected to the cleaning unit when the one of the upper section and the cleaning unit is mounted to the floor cleaning head.

    • An improved energy-efficient vacuum system for machine shop dust, particulate matter, and the like. Blast gates, including large-diameter blast gates, control the flow of vacuum generated by a dust collector to individual machines that may or may not accommodate vacuum ductwork and the like. The blast gate has a rotating blade inside a chassis with a DC motor effectively using a slip clutch, an increased current feedback system, a biasing-spring assembly or otherwise to limit the rotation driving of the rotating blade. In one embodiment, the blast gate blade bears teeth about its perimeter. The DC motor engages the perimeter blade teeth with a gear. Greater mechanical advantage is achieved over the blast gate blade and less torque arises in contrast to a driving system located at the blade's central pivot point. Additionally, sensing apparatus or system calculation allow the dust collecting vacuum system to operate in an energy-efficient manner. By supplying only the vacuum needed to collect present dust, energy is saved in comparison with a dust collection system operating continuously at full capacity.

    • A handle which is attachable to an electrified vacuum hose of a hydro-vacuum extraction machine, the hose including electrical wires encapsulated therein, a vacuum tube and a solution supply tube running parallel to the hose. Further, the plug includes terminals for connecting with a mating plug for supplying electricity from the electrical wires to a vacuum attachment for use in vacuuming. The retainer removably retains the valve.

    • A vacuum cleaning tool adapter for vacuum cleaning systems having a control device incorporated within the adapter. The control device includes an electrical switch and may also include other circuit control devices. Also incorporated in the adapter is a connect-disconnect connector for mechanically interengaging the adapter with a hose assembly leading to the vacuum cleaner, which also provides electrical continuity from the adapter through current conducting reinforcing members in the hose assembly and into the vacuum cleaner. The adapter provides for electrically connecting the cleaning tool into the system, and the switch is used to turn the power on and off from the vacuum cleaner motor to the cleaning tool. An additional switch may also be located in the adapter for controlling the vacuum cleaner motor itself.
