摘要： What is disclosed is a face mask formed from a porous sheet made of a plurality of fibers. The mask is formed into a generally cup shape shell that fits over the mouth and nose of the wearer and is held thereto by elastic straps attached to the mask that pass behind the head when the mask is worn. The mask filters breathed air passing through the mask. The border of the mask is more tightly compacted during forming. The mask of the present invention features rearwardly projecting portions located on either side of the nose bridge area of the mask parallel to and close to the border of the mask. The peak of the rearwardly projecting portions extend from the face mask in the direction of the face of the wearer of the mask to conform the portion of the mask close to its border to the contours of the face of the wearer between the bridge of the wearer's nose and the upper areas of their cheekbones. The more tightly compacted rearwardly projecting portions, rib elements and border cooperate to provide shape retention to the mask, and to provide a spring action that holds the mask firmly but comfortably to the face of the wearer even when they talk or change facial expression to prevent the passage of air between the mask and the face of the wearer.

摘要： A smoke and pollutant filtering device comprising a mask having a filter composed of a series of contiguous, serial layers of filtering material. The filter consists of front and rear gas permeable covers, a first filter layer of pressed vegetable matter, a second filter layer comprising a layer of activated charcoal adjacent a layer of aqua filter floss, a third filter comprising a gas permeable cloth situated between layers of pressed vegetable matter, and a fourth filter layer comprising an aqua filter floss. The first through fourth filter layers are sandwiched between the front and rear gas permeable covers. The filtering device is stitched together and mounted within a fire-retardant hood shaped to fit over a human head. Elastic bands are included in the hood to maintain the hood snugly about the head when worn.

摘要： A disposable face respirator formed of a shape retaining filter medium comprised of a plurality of fibrous layers that cover a major portion of the surface area of the mask and a flexible face piece attached to the periphery of the filter medium. An improved filter medium to face piece sealing joint is provided by incorporating an apertured lip on the face piece which is interlocked between first and second fibrous layers with the fibers in the second fibrous layer extending into and contacting fibers in the first fibrous layer. An undercut area may be provided in the apertured lip into which fibers which form the filter layer can be drawn. A process of simultaneously forming and attaching the filter medium to the face piece is also disclosed. The process comprises depositing a first thin layer of solids from an aqueous slurry onto a foraminous suction mold having the surface contours desired for the interior of the filter medium, placing a face piece having an integrally formed apertured lip over the mold and the first layer, depositing a second thin fibrous layer of solids from an aqueous slurry on the outside surface of the first layer, on the outside surface of the apertured lip and within the apertures in the lip. In a preferred process, two fibrous backing layers are provided in this manner and a fibrous filter layer is deposited from an aqueous slurry on the outside surface of the second fibrous backing layer and within an undercut area provided in the apertured lip. An additional fibrous protecting layer is preferably deposited on the outside surface of the filter layer from an aqueous slurry.
