    • An image processor for generating a histogram at high speeds under a low processing load. The image processor is used with a memory and generates sub-sampling image data and histogram data based on captured image data. The captured image data includes gradation values of a plurality of pixels. The image processor includes a histogram data acquisition unit connected to the memory. The histogram data acquisition unit detects pixels having the same gradation value from the captured image data, designates an address in the memory that corresponds to the gradation value of the detected pixels, and adds or subtracts an arbitrary value to or from a value stored at the designated address of the memory.

    • Disclosed is a circuit which receives a supply voltage from a power supply and generates a voltage of a desired level different from that of the supply voltage. The circuit includes an oscillation circuit, a supply voltage generator, a first interconnection and a control circuit. The oscillation circuit generates an oscillation output signal. The supply voltage generator is responsive to the oscillation output signal from the oscillation circuit and generates a voltage of a predetermined level. The first interconnection connects the supply voltage generator to an internal circuit which is to be supplied with the voltage generated by the supply voltage generator. The internal circuit is also connected via a second interconnection to a power supply. The control circuit is provided between the first interconnection and the second interconnection as a variable resistor circuit which is responsive to the oscillation output signal from the oscillation circuit. The control circuit changes its resistance in synchronism with the end of the generation of the voltage of the predetermined level by the supply voltage generator.

    • A retarder adapted for use on a vehicle comprises: a blower connected to a crankshaft of the vehicle; a clutch provided between the blower and the crankshaft for selectively disconnecting the blower from the crankshaft; a speed change mechanism including a plurality of shafts, gears and bearings and provided between the crankshaft and the blower; an oil pump driven by energy transmitted from the clutch and the blower for supplying lubrication oil to the speed change mechanism; a sensor for detecting the pressure of the lubrication oil supplied to the elements of the speed change mechanism; and a control unit for allowing the clutch to disconnect the blower from the crankshaft when the lubrication oil pressure detected by the sensor is below a certain value. The blower consumes energy of the engine which is transmitted from the crankshaft, thereby applying a brake force to the engine. When trouble, such as a seize-up of the bearings, occurs in the speed change mechanism, the rotation of the shafts of the speed change mechanism is decelerated. Thereupon, the oil pressure from the oil pump drops since the pump is driven by energy derived from the speed change mechanism. An excessive brake force is not applied to the crankshaft since the trouble is detected by the control unit and then the blower is disconnected from the crankshaft promptly.
