    • An optical element (100) for use in front of a light source (102) for obtaining a skylight appearance, a lighting system and a luminaire are provided. The optical element (100) comprises a light transmitting cell which comprises a light transmitting channel (116), a light input window (106), a light exit window (110) and a wall (108). The light transmitting channel (116) collimates a part of light (104) emitted by the light source (102). The light input window (106) is arranged at a first side of the light transmitting channel (116) and receives light (104) from the light source (102). The light exit window (110) emits light with the skylight appearance. At least a part of the light exit window (110) is arranged at a second side of the light transmitting channel (116) opposite to the first side. The wall (108) is interposed between the light input window (106) and the part of the light exit window (110). The wall (108) encloses the light transmitting channel (116). At least a part of the wall (108) is reflective and/or transmissive in a predefined spectral range to obtain a blue light emission at relatively large light emission angles with respect to a normal to the part of the light exit window (110).

    • The invention relates to a light-guide (100), an illumination system (200), a luminaire (400), a scanning backlight system (200) and a display device. The light-guide comprises a plurality of light-guide segments (10), each light-guide segment being substantially optically separated from a neighboring light-guide segment. Each light-guide segment comprises light-extraction means (40) for extracting at least part of the distributed light via a front wall (20) to illuminate in operation a light output window (220). A distance (D) between the front wall and the light output window being smaller at a center (C) of the front wall compared to a predefined edge (50) of the front wall. The predefined edge of the front wall is an edge at which the light-guide segment is arranged adjacent to the neighboring light-guide segment. An effect of the light-guide according to the invention is that the increased distance at the predefined edge of the front wall between the front wall and the light output window reduces local variations in intensity and/or color and/or distribution of the light due to mixing of the light before the light impinges on the light-output window.

    • The invention relates to an array of light generators where each light generator comprises reflecting collimation optics in the form of curved mirrors for collimating light emitted by light sources such as surface mounted Light Emitting Diodes. The collimation optics is formed to collimate light in a direction parallel with a plane, e.g. a printed circuit board, onto which the light sources are mounted. The light sources may emit light parallel with the direction of collimation or non-parallel, e.g. perpendicular, with the direction of collimation in which case the collimation optics redirects the light rays from the light source. The array of light generators can be used in combination with a television display for creating a pixelated image appearing to the viewer as an image peripherally surrounding the display.
