摘要： Black video segments in a video playlist may be minimized. Black detection may be utilized by a network device to identify true starting point and a true ending point of a video asset which includes black video segments in the playlist. Locations associated with the true starting and ending points may be recorded in metadata associated with the video asset. New black video segments may be added at the beginning and at the end of the playlist. Playback of the playlist may then be initiated to play the video asset only between the recorded location associated with the true starting point and the recorded location associated with the true ending point at the network device thereby minimizing the black video segments in the video asset.

摘要： In one embodiment, a network device analyzes an encoded video stream using black detection before splicing video into the encoded video stream. When black data is detected, the network device determines whether insertion of a black intra frame with the spliced video will improve viewing upon decoding. The network device may also determine whether a splicing boundary indication included in the encoded video stream is accurate based on an observed transition between the detected black data and other data, and compensate the video splice accordingly.

By way of example, each audiovisual segment has a multiplicity of audio frames including a first audio frame, a second audio frame that sequentially follows the first audio frame and a last audio frame. The method includes the step of aligning an initial audio frame in the first audiovisual segment with the first video frame in the first audiovisual segment. The first audio frame from the first audiovisual segment is designated as the initial audio frame when a tab error associated with the first audio frame from the first audiovisual segment is less than about half a frame. On the other hand, the second audio frame from the first audiovisual segment is designated as the initial audio frame when a tab error associated with the first audio frame from the first audiovisual segment is greater than half a frame. 摘要： An error measurement and reduction method, including the steps of inducing a high error rate in a mass storage device memory system to determine rapidly and independently the optimal pattern sensitivity, pulse pairing, and window centering error parameters for the system. In a preferred embodiment, the system error rate is then reduced by setting at least one, and preferably all three, of the error parameters to its optimal value. The inventive system includes means for performing the inventive method, and preferably includes computer-controllable means for independently adjusting the pattern sensitivity and pulse pairing error parameters associated with each read/write head of the system, and for adjusting the window centering error parameter associated with the system. The inventive method and system exploit the mutual orthogonality (with respect to overall system error rate) of the pattern sensitivity pulse pairing, and window centering error parameters, which mutual orthogonality exists when the system reads selected test patterns.
