    • A variable valve drive for internal combustion engines is used for activation of gas exchange valves, in which the gas exchange valves engage different cam profiles of a camshaft driven by the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. The camshaft has at least one displaceable cam segment that carries multiple different cam profiles having the same base circle section. Each one of the cam profiles is switched to be active for the related gas exchange valve, in accordance with the axial position of the cam segment relative to at least one related gas exchange valve. The axial positioning of the cam segment takes place by a setting shaft that can be rotated and is disposed parallel and next to the camshaft. The setting shaft has a guide track in which a tappet is guided, which acts on a transfer element that determines the axial position of the cam segment.

    • A magnetic resonance apparatus is operated with continuous movement of an examination subject through a measurement volume of the apparatus. At each successively-occupied position of the examination subject within the measurement volume during the continuous movement, magnetic resonance data are acquired with system parameters, each having system parameter values. Contemporaneously with each data acquisition at each position, the acquired data are evaluated as to the effect produced by the system parameter values employed to acquire the data. The system parameter values are then adapted to cause the effect to correspond to a target value, and the adapted system parameters are then used to acquire data at the next-successive position occupied by the examination subject in the continuous movement.

    • A technique for evaluating fraud risk in e-commerce transactions between consumer and a merchant is disclosed. The merchant requests service from the system using a secure, open messaging protocol. An e-commerce transaction or electronic purchase order is received from the merchant, the level of risk associated with each order is measured, and a risk score is returned. In one embodiment, data validation, highly predictive artificial intelligence pattern matching, network data aggregation and negative file checks are used. The system performs analysis including data integrity checks and correlation analyses based on characteristics of the transaction. Other analysis includes comparison of the current transaction against known fraudulent transactions, and a search of a transaction history database to identify abnormal patterns, name and address changes, and defrauders. In one alternative, scoring algorithms are refined through use of a closed-loop risk modeling process enabling the service to adapt to new or changing fraud patterns.
