摘要： An optical recording and/or reproduction apparatus includes: a light source for emitting a first light beam; an optical system for outputting first and second diffracted light beams and a second light beam; and a controlling section for controlling the optical system, wherein the first and second diffracted light beams interfere with each other to generate interference fringes which extend in a direction substantially perpendicular to a recording layer of an recording medium, the optical recording and/or reproduction apparatus further includes a detection section for detecting the interference fringes reflected by the guiding portion so as to output a detection signal, and the control section controls the optical system based on the detection signal such that the optical spots follow at least either of concave portions and convex portions of the guiding portion.

摘要： A first diffractive optical element pattern with a pattern pitch that is no greater than a wavelength of incident light is formed on a first main surface of substrate such as a glass plate. Second diffractive optical element patterns are formed at positions that are respectively incident to positive first-order diffracted light and negative first-order diffracted light produced by the first diffractive optical element pattern. Negative first-order diffracted light produced by each second diffractive optical element pattern is incident upon a boundary face of the substrate at an angle that is smaller than the critical angle, and so exits the substrate.

摘要： An optical head comprises a light path alteration member (first surface of a first transparent substrate), a first grating element and a second grating element arranged in that order in a light path between a light source and an optical disk. A beam emitted by the light source passes a collimated lens, is deflected by total reflection from the light path alteration member, and enters the first grating element. Diffracted light enters a second grating element, and is focused on a recording medium by an objective lens. Wavelength variations in light diffracted by the first grating element and wavelength variations in light diffracted by the second grating element at least partially cancel each other out. Thus, a thin optical head for an optical recording medium is provided.

摘要： The diffractive optical modulator of the invention includes: a plate having a portion functioning as a first electrode; a spacer layer formed on the plate; and a grating consisting of a plurality of beams having a portion functioning as a second electrode, both ends of the beams being supported on the spacer layer. In the diffractive optical modulator, by adjusting a voltage applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, a distance between the beams and the plate is varied, thereby controlling the diffraction efficiency. An insulating layer is further provided between the plate and the plurality of beams.

摘要： The present invention contributes to getting a reproduction/recording operation done with stability on an information recording medium by utilizing an absorption edge shifting phenomenon. An apparatus 100 according to the present invention includes: a light source 20 for emitting a laser beam; a lens 6 for condensing the beam onto an information recording medium 21; and a photodetector 19 for detecting light reflected from the medium 21, of which a recording layer includes a material that absorbs the beam at an increasing absorptance as the absorption edge of a light absorption spectrum shifts, with a rise in temperature, toward a longer wavelength range as a result of a band-to-band transition of electrons. The apparatus 100 of this invention further includes: a wavelength detecting section 26 for detecting at least one of the wavelength of the beam and its variation; a temperature sensing section 27 for sensing at least one of the temperature of the medium 21 or its ambience and its variation; and a control section 28 for controlling the power of the light source 20 based on the respective outputs of the wavelength detecting section 26 and the temperature sensing section 27.

The laser beams 33, 35 are incident on light receiving regions 37a, 37b for focus detection, and a focus error signal is generated by an SSD method. A laser beam 65 reflected by an information layer adjacent to the above information layer partially transmits through the reflecting surface 31a′ to be imaged on a light receiving region 66 for tracking detection, and a tracking error signal is generated.
