摘要： A storage system is disclosed that stores data across plural storage devices. The storage system includes plural modules. Each of the modules includes a storage device including a data storage section that has plural slice areas to store data elements one in each, and a control-information storage section that stores control information of the plural slice areas, a communications-function section having a function of sending and receiving the data elements stored in the slice areas in the data storage section. The modules communicate with each other to replicate the data element stored in the slice area into an unused slice area in another module so as to have data redundancy.

摘要： In a storage system, a plurality of RAID devices are connected to a network, and data is multiplexed to primary data and secondary data by being mirrored among the RAID devices. When a failure of a disk device that can be recovered within the devices owing to the RAID configuration occurs, data of a disk device corresponding to the failed disk device is requested to a RAID device that is its mirror target and the transferred data is written to a spare disk device for the recovery. At the time of the data recovery, an access right to a group of disk devices constituting RAID and an access right to individual disk devices are exclusively controlled with respect to an input and output of the primary data.

摘要： A group-by processing system performs a specified operation computing average value, etc. on a group of records having the same key value, efficiently accesses a secondary storage device, and realizes a high speed process. The group-by processing system includes a unit for storing records; a unit for storing pointers to the records in the unit for storing records at positions, each of which corresponds to a hash function value calculated using the key value of the pointed record; a unit for outputting the records pointed to by the pointers in the unit for storing pointers to secondary storage device, given the hash function values; and a unit for reading a list of output hashed records, sorting the records by key value, and performing a group-by operation on the sorted records. The system also includes a combination generation unit for outputting a combination of two or more items satisfying a combination generation restriction condition; an occurrence count unit for counting occurrences of the combinations; a combination selection unit for selecting the combination which satisfies the given condition of the number of occurrences; and a restriction condition generation unit for assigning the restriction condition to the combination generation unit according to the selection result. The combinations of items can be counted efficiently by performing a high-speed group-by operation.

摘要： A parallel sorting system is disclosed, having N (=2.sup.n) processing devices, each of which comprises a sort element storing unit, an inner sorting unit, a transposing unit, and a comparing and substituting unit. In the sort element storing unit, sort elements/N are stored. Sorting process is performed for n stages. In each stage, the inner sorting unit sorts the sort elements, and the transposing unit exchanges sorted elements at a transposing position with another processing device through a network. Thereafter, the comparing and substituting unit compares the two sets of sorts elements. This process sequence is repeated for all stages. And, after the transposing process and the inner sorting process are performed, the sorting process are completed. In this system, the number of communication times is reduced to 2n.
