    • A distortion compensating apparatus for correcting the size of a distortion compensation coefficient in such a manner that a transmit signal that has undergone distortion compensation will not exceed the dynamic range of a DA converter. Specifically, before a distortion compensation coefficient hn+1(p) that has been calculated by a calculation unit is stored in a coefficient memory, an assumption is made that distortion compensation will be performed using the distortion compensation coefficient hn+1(p). Then it is determined beforehand whether a signal x(t)*hn+1(p) that will be obtained by this distortion compensation will exceed the limit of a DA converter. If the limit will be exceeded, the size of the distortion compensation coefficient is reduced by a correction unit, the corrected distortion compensation coefficient is stored in the memory and the transmit signal is corrected using the stored distortion compensation coefficient.

    • A parallel operation system of transmission amplifiers enable the parallel running by the two distortion compensation amplifiers using the digital pre-distorter system and to provide a parallel operation system of the transmission amplifiers that makes it possible to switch to respective single running easily. The parallel operation system includes first and second transmission amplifiers which receive common input signals for outputting amplified signals from respective ones; and a coupling unit which combines outputs of the first and second transmission amplifiers, to provide as its output; the first and second transmission amplifiers each having a main amplifier; and a modulation unit disposed on the input side of the main amplifier; wherein the output of one of the modulation units included in the first and second transmission amplifiers is fed in common to the main amplifiers included in the first and second transmission amplifiers.

    • A distortion compensation apparatus returns a part of an amplified output signal of a power amplifier amplifying a transmission signal, reads a distortion compensation signal from a distortion compensation table, multiplies the transmission signal with the distortion compensation signal thereof, and inputs the signal to the power amplifier. The distortion compensation signal corresponding to a signal calculated based on an error signal that is a difference between the transmission signal and the amplified output signal, the distortion compensation signal from the distortion compensation table and the step size parameter, and to a power of the transmission signal. The distortion compensation apparatus comprises a &mgr; control part including a fast Fourier transformation part that obtains a spectrum of the amplified output signal, a calculation part that calculates an adjacent channel leakage power ratio based on the spectrum, and a &mgr; adjusting part that varies the step size parameter by comparing the calculated adjacent leakage power ratio with a threshold value.
