    • A disk player has a guide member for guiding an optical pickup carrier along both sides of a double-sided disk. In order to prevent interference between the pickup carrier and the periphery of the disk during turning movement of the pickup carrier around the periphery of the disk from one of the upper and lower sides of the disk to the other side, the guide member is shaped like a horseshoe. The guide member includes upper and lower straight sections for guiding the pickup carrier, respectively, along the upper and lower sides of the disc, and an arched section extending vertically around the periphery of the disk and connecting the outer ends of the upper and lower straight sections. The upper and lower straight sections are not parallel to each other, but rather they are inclined in such a fanlike manner that the outer ends are wider apart.

    • A broadcasting receiver includes a demodulator, a detector, and a start flag storage unit. The demodulator demodulates received digital broadcasting and outputs a demodulated signal. The signal detector detects a synchronization signal and a start control signal from the demodulated signal. The synchronization signal and the start control signal are contained in an emergency alert broadcasting frame multiplexed onto the digital broadcasting. The start control signal indicates emergency alert broadcasting. The start flag storage unit stores a start flag indicating that the signal detector has detected the start control signal.

    • In an OFDM reception apparatus, a Fourier transform unit segments a time-domain signal in an OFDM signal in accordance with a segmenting window signal and converts the time-domain signal into a frequency-domain signal. A first signal extraction unit extracts pilot signals periodically arranged in a frequency direction and in a time direction from an output from the Fourier transform unit. A second signal extraction unit extracts differential reference signals from an output from the Fourier transform unit. A delay profile detection unit performs delay profile detection using the output from the second signal extraction unit, and performs delay profile detection on the output from the first signal extraction unit within a range limited on the basis of a result of the detection. A synchronous reproduction unit generates the segmenting window signal using an output from the delay profile detection unit.
