The disc cartridge in which is housed an optical disc includes a main cartridge body unit, rotatably housing an optical disc, and having an aperture for a head part for exposing a part of the optical disc to outside across the inner and outer rims of the optical disc, and a shutter unit mounted for movement to this main cartridge body unit for opening/closing the aperture for the head part. A recess into which is introduced a portion of a head part of the recording and/or reproducing apparatus is formed in continuation to the aperture for the head part in a surface of the main cartridge body unit on which slides a shutter unit in an area opposite to the area of movement of the shutter unit with the aperture for the head part in-between.

摘要： A recording medium enabling type determination and writing possibility determination for various types of disks. Opening and closing means for opening and closing a detection hole of a cartridge forms a plane substantially horizontal level with a reference plane of the cartridge at a position of the detection hole when the detection hole is in a closed state. The cartridge has at least a first detection hole and a second detection hole formed therein. The second detection hole (H1) is opened and closed by the opening and closing means, and the first detection hole (H0) is in an open state at all times. A disk drive apparatus or a disk determining method determines, together with a disk type, determining information contents (for example writing possibility) based on one or a plurality of detection holes formed in the cartridge, on the basis of an open/closed state of the detection hole and a result of the disk type using a signal based on reflected light from the loaded recording medium.

摘要： An objective lens driving device in which an objective lens is driven by a magnetic circuit having a focusing coil and a tracking coil. The objective lens driving device is provided with a biaxial movable body that is supported by a support shaft so as to be slidable in the axial direction of the support shaft and rotatable about the support shaft, an objective lens held by the biaxial movable body, a plurality of focusing coils that are provided on the biaxial movable body so as to be symmetrical with respect to the support shaft, a tracking coil or coils that are provided on the biaxial movable body in a number that is smaller than the number of focusing coils, and magnets that are opposed to the focusing coils and the tracking coil or coils, respectively. A plurality of first magnetic circuits are formed by the focusing coils and part of the magnets that are opposed to the respective focusing coils. A second magnetic circuit or circuits are formed by the tracking coil or coils and the other magnet or magnets that are opposed to the tracking coil or coils, respectively, in a number that is smaller than the number of first magnetic circuits. This configuration enables miniaturization of the main body.
