    • Disclosed is an electrostatic atomizer, which is capable of stably producing nanometer-sized mist droplets while using low withstand voltage circuit components and simplifying a circuit configuration. The electrostatic atomizer of the present invention is designed to stabilize an output voltage of a high-voltage generator by an output stabilizer during an operation of applying a high-voltage generator to a discharge electrode supplied with a liquid to be electrostatically atomized, so as to induce a discharge to electrostatically atomize the liquid. The high-voltage generator includes a self-oscillation type DC/DC converter having a transformer and a switching element, and the output stabilizer is operable to adjust a time period of an ON state of the switching element, based on a voltage induced in the control winding during the ON state of the switching element.

    • A disklike record medium such as a magnetic data storage disk, and a closed-loop servo control system for positioning a transducer such as a magnetic read/write head on any of a multiplicity of concentric tracks on the record medium. The tracks on the record medium are divided into a plurality of groups, and each track of each group has a different code character prerecorded thereon as in the form of discretely magnetized regions. All the groups of tracks have the same set of code characters assigned thereto for the simplicity of the code characters. Read by the transducer, the code characters enable the control system to individually identify all the tracks of all the groups. In response to an externally supplied track command indicative of a destination track on which the transducer is to be positioned, and to internally supplied track code data, the control system causes translation of the transducer from a departure track to the destination track during track seek operations.

    • In a data storage and retrieval system employing a magnetic disk as the storage medium, a monophase encoder is coupled, typically, to an electric seek motor for optoelectronically producing an output representative of the position of a data transducer with respect to a multiplicity of concentric data tracks on the disk. Electrically connected to the monophase encoder is a triple detector circuit for deriving from the encoder output a transducer position signal representative of the transducer position on the disk, an actual transducer speed signal representative of the transducer speed relative to the disk, and a track boundary signal representative of boundaries between the data tracks on the disk. The transducer position signal and actual transducer speed signal are both fed to a seek motor control circuit, whereas the track boundary signal is fed to a controller microprocessor, which then delivers to the seek motor control circuit a requested transducer speed signal at which the transducer is to be moved across the data tracks during operation in a seek mode. In response to the incoming signals the control circuit controls the seek motor for transporting the transducer to a desired track at a desired speed and for positioning the transducer in centerline alignment with the track.

    • A constant dc current supplying circuit comprises a dc voltage supply, an inverter providing an ac voltage from said dc voltage, and an ac-to-dc converter providing a dc current from the inverter output and supplying the resulting dc current to a load. The inverter includes a switching element driven to turn on and off in order to repetitively interrupt the dc voltage for producing the dc current of which level is determined by on-off time ratio of the switching element. A comparator is included to compare a level of the dc current supplied to the load with a predetermined reference level so as to provide a first output and a second output when the dc current level is below and above the reference level. Also included in the circuit is a feedback controller which generates first and second feedback control signals, respectively in response to the first and second outputs from the comparator. The first and second control signals are defined as a train of pulses of varying duty ratio in order to increase and decrease on-off time ratio of the switching element depending upon the sensed output dc current level, whereby controlling to gradually increase and decrease the output dc current towards the reference level for maintaining the dc current thereat.

    • A hard disk drive is disclosed in which the disk has tracks each divided into alternating data sectors and servo sectors, with the control data such as track addresses on the servo sectors being normally recorded more stably than the main data on the data sectors. In order to obtain read pulses representative of the peaks of the output waveform of a transducer, this waveform is directed on one hand into a differentiator circuit and thence into a wave shaping circuit for the provision of data pulses which rise and decay in synchronism with the peaks of the transducer output waveform. On the other hand, the transducer output waveform is sent into a gate pulse circuit, in which the waveform is compared with a reference signal in order to provide gate or window pulses. A logic circuit is provided for ascertaining whether the data pulses rise and decay within the durations of the gate pulses and, if they do, for producing read pulses indicative of the rises and decays of the data pulses. The duration of the gate pulses is made shorter for recovery of the control data than for main data recovery, with a view to more precise detection of the peaks of the transducer output waveform representative of the control data.
