    • Provided is a real-time streaming protocol (RTSP) based progressive streaming method. The progressive streaming method based on a real-time streaming protocol, wherein a server transfers SDP information and performs streaming of a contents file to a client connected, the method including the steps of: a) if a “pause” request message is received from the client, transmitting a “pause” response message including the number of TCP packets already transferred to the client, and pausing streaming of the contents file; and b) if a “replay” request message including the number of the TCP packet to be transferred is received from the client, transmitting a “replay” response message and restarting transmission of the TCP packets from the next TCP packet to the TCP packet transferred to the client before the contents file is paused.

    • Provided is an apparatus and method for encoding and decoding a video signal. A video signal encoding apparatus may include: a reference image storage unit to store a reference image; a template motion estimation unit to estimate a motion between an input image and the reference image using a template, and to generate motion estimation information; an adaptive motion compensation unit to generate a predicted image using the motion estimation information and the reference image, to calculate a filter coefficient with respect to the predicted image using the template, and to filter the predicted image using the filter coefficient; a transformation and quantization unit to perform integer-transformation and quantization for a differential image that is a difference between the input image and the filtered predicted image; and an entropy encoding unit to entropy encode the quantized differential image and to output an image stream.

    • The present invention relates to a method of systematically and synthetically accessing modality conversion that is an important part in the contents adaptive conversion process of a universal multimedia access system. The present invention provides an effective method of solving a problem, which is incurred at the time of modality conversion and still remains as one of difficult problems incurred during adaptive contents conversion. For this purpose, the present invention includes overlapped contents modeling newly proposed to determine modality conversion, a method of flexibly and clearly expressing and applying user preference for the modality conversion, and a resource allocation method of distributing resources among complicated contents based on the user preference. As a result, the integration of the above three methods provides a synthetic solution, particularly, to a problem incurred in the modality conversion and, generally, to a problem incurred in the adaptive conversion of contents.
