    • An Ethernet-PON integrates broadcast/communication through time division multiplexing, which provides users with high-speed, high-volume communication data and high-quality, real-time digital broadcast/image data. An OLT performs a switching operation on a plurality of digital broadcast/image data received from an external broadcaster according to respective broadcast/image selection information from users, time-division-multiplexes the data into a broadcast/image signal, multiplexes the signal and communication data from an IP network into a frame, and electro-optically converts the frame and transmits to the frame to ONTs through an optical splitter. Each ONT receives and photoelectrically converts the signal from the OLT, and performs frame & time-slot demultiplexing to output the entire received communication signals and broadcast/image information contained in a time-slot assigned to the ONT to a corresponding user. The ONT receives a communication signal and broadcast/image selection information from the user, and outputs them to the OLT through the splitter.

    • Disclosed is a wavelength division multiplexing-passive optical network (WDM-PON) that integrates broadcast and communication data, and transmit using WDM. An optical line terminal (OLT), connected to a broadcasting network and an Internet protocol (IP)-network, receives a digital broadcast signal from the broadcasting network and a first communication signal from the IP network, and transmits them as a single (broadcast/communication) integrated optical signal after photoelectric conversion, and further transfers a second communication signal from a service user to the IP network. An OLT/ONU on the user side transfers integrated optical signal from OLT to the user, and transfers channel-information data of a digital broadcast desired by the user and user data including the second communication signal from the user to the OLT. A first WDM demultiplexer WDM-demultiplexes the single signal and transfers it to the OLT/ONU. A first WDM multiplexer WDM-multiplexes the user data and transfers it to the OLT.

    • Disclosed are an apparatus for regenerating a distorted optical signal through reamplification, regenerating, and retiming processes in an optical communication network and a method thereof. The apparatus includes an optical clock generation section for generating an optical clock signal of a specified frequency, an optical signal sampling section for sampling a distorted non-return-to-zero (NRZ) optical signal in synchronization with the clock signal from the optical clock generation section, an optical signal regenerating section for regenerating an output signal of the sampling section, and a return-to-zero (RZ)/NRZ conversion section for converting the optical signal reshaped by the optical signal regenerating section into an NRZ optical signal. The apparatus overcomes the limitations of the signal processing speed produced in the electric 3R type regenerator, and enable the signal regenerating to be performed without the necessity of an optical clock extraction apparatus.
