    • For the continuous melting of salts to be used for modifying the properties of objects of glass or similar materials, an apparatus is provided with inner and outer vessels, an annular chamber between the vessels for containing a heat exchange fluid, ribs on the outer walls of the inner vessel for guiding the heat exchange fluid and assisting heat exchange from the heat exchange fluid to the inner vessel, means for transferring heat to the heat exchange fluid, means for circulating the heat exchange fluid through the chamber, means for admitting the salt to the inner vessel, the inner vessel having an upper portion of a semi-circular profile defining a radiant heating surface for radiating heat downwardly onto the salt and having a lower portion of approximately triangular to parabolic profile defining a conduction heating surface for transferring heat to the salt by conduction, the upper surface to be formed by the salt charged to the inner vessel defining a melting surface and the ratio of the area of the radiant heating surface to the melting surface being in the range of 1.4:1 to 1.57:1 and the ratio of the area of the conduction heating surface to the melting surface being in the range of 2.5:1 to 4:1.

    • A clothes hanger with a pants holding device comprising a shoulder contour segment with a hook, a cross bar between the arms of the shoulder contour segment and a flexible spring element which is attached to the pants holding device. The spring element extends somewhat parallel to the cross bar and is held in place by means of interlocking openings. The spring element can be moved between a release position and a clamping position, wherein the pants are firmly clamped between the cross bar and the spring element in the clamping position. In order to design the pants holding device with an economy of means and long-lasting efficiency, to securely retain the spring element in the clamping position and in the release position and to enable troublefree switching of the spring element from one position to the other, the ends of the spring element are held in the interlocking openings by forming a joint having a substantially stationary rotating axis.

    • A surface protection for a hot-tinning system or soldering system particularly useful for the air jets of the system characterized by the surfaces of the parts, which come into contact with the solder during the process, being provided with a non-metallic, heat resistant layer. The layer, which preferably has a thickness range of between 0.2 and 0.4 mm, may be an Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 ceramic layer, which is preferably applied by a plasma spraying process, or may be a polytetrafluoroethylene coating. It is further desireable that the surface, which is to be protected by the heat resistant layer, is provided as a sand blasted surface which has been provided with an adhesion layer consisting of Ni-Mo-Al alloy.
