摘要： An optical transmission unit of an optical reception and transmission module holds a first end portion of the optical waveguide film on the first holding member so that light emitted from the light emitting device is coupled to an incident end surface of the optical waveguide. An optical reception unit holds a second end portion of the optical waveguide film on the second holding member so that light emitted from an emitting end surface of the optical waveguide is received by the light receiving device. At least the optical waveguide film is covered with flame-retardant resin having flame retardancy of HB or higher according to a UL-94 test and a minimum bending radius of the optical waveguide film covered with the flame-retardant resin and having a flame-retardant resin layer formed on its surface is from 1 mm to 3 mm.

摘要： There is provided an optical waveguide including: a waveguide core through which light propagates; a cavity that is present inside the waveguide core so as to be open at least one end in the thickness direction of the waveguide core; a layer-form first cladding having a lower refractive index than the waveguide core, and sealing at least one of the at least one opening of the cavity to thereby close the opening of the cavity; and a second cladding having a lower refractive index than the waveguide core, and surrounding the waveguide core. There is also provided a method of manufacturing the optical waveguide.

摘要： The present invention provides a process for producing a polymer optical waveguide, comprising the steps of: preparing a mold comprising a concave portion; bringing a substrate into contact with the mold, filling the concave portion with a core-forming curable resin; curing the core-forming curable resin in the concave portion; removing the mold from the substrate; and forming a clad layer on the substrate; wherein the mold comprises a cured resin layer and a reinforcing member, the cured resin layer has the concave portion, the reinforcing member has an introduction portion which communicates with the concave portion and an injection inlet which communicates with the introduction portion, and a discharge portion which communicates with the concave portion is provided in the reinforcing member, the cured resin layer and/or a space between the cured resin layer and the reinforcing member, and a resin injecting device which is used in the process.

摘要： The present invention provides an optical waveguide manufacturing method. A polymer resin with different refractive index from the polymer film is applied to a polymer film and is cured, so that a double-layered polymer film, which has a cladding layer and a core layer with higher refractive index than the cladding layer, is manufactured. The core layer is cut by the dicing saw having a blade for enabling cutting of a resin layer, so as to be processed into core portions of the optical waveguide. Cut concave portions of the core layer are filled with polymer resin having the same refractive index with the cladding layer. The core portions are further covered with the polymer resin, and the polymer resin is cured so that a cladding resin layer is formed.

The sub-mount further has an adhesive filling groove formed adjacent to respective recesses. When mounting the polymer optical waveguide film, the light emitting element, and the light detecting element onto the sub-mount, an adhesive is accurately applied and is prevented from flowing out as the adhesive filling grooves are provided.
