摘要： A waterless or driographic printing plate which can be thermally imaged by an infrared laser is composed of a substrate; a thermal imaging layer containing a photothermal conversion material, such as an infrared absorbing material, and a thermoplastic polyurethane with pendent allyl groups; and a crosslinked silicone polymer top layer. It was discovered that when the imaging layer contains an allyl functional polyurethane mixed with an infrared absorbing dye or pigment, the polymeric layer will have enhanced solubility in certain solvents when exposed to infrared radiation. In addition, the polymeric layer continues to exhibit excellent adhesion to the silicone in unexposed areas so that the infrared absorbing layer can endure development with a suitable organic solvent, or a solvent mixture. Mild brushing or rubbing with the developing solvent readily removes laser-struck portions of the infrared imaging layer while unexposed areas remain firmly intact.

This composition can be used to provide negative-working imageable elements that can be imaged and developed to provide lithographic printing plates that have desired imaging speed and excellent run length without the need for a post-exposure backing step.

摘要： A radiation-sensitive composition includes a radically polymerizable component and an initiator composition capable of generating radicals sufficient to initiate polymerization of the radically polymerizable component upon exposure to imaging radiation. This composition also includes a radiation absorbing compound, a polymeric binder having poly(alkylene glycol) side chains, and a nonionic phosphate acrylate that has a molecular weight of at least 250. This composition can be used to prepare a negative-working imageable element that is sensitive to suitable imaging radiation and can be imaged at relatively low energy, developed either on-press or off-press, and then used for printing without a post-exposure baking step.

摘要： The present invention provides an imageable element including a lithographic substrate and an imageable layer disposed on the substrate. The imageable layer includes a radically polymerizable component, an initiator system capable of generating radicals sufficient to initiate a polymerization reaction upon exposure to imaging radiation, and a polymeric binder having a hydrophobic backbone and including both constitutional units having a pendant cyano group attached directly to the hydrophobic backbone, and constitutional units having a pendant group including a hydrophilic poly(alkylene oxide) segment. When the imageable element is imaged and developed, the resulting printing plate may exhibit improved on-press solvent resistance and longer press life.

摘要： A printing plate useful in lithographic printing is prepared by the process comprising: (a) applying an alkali soluble composition comprising at least one polymer composition to a hydrophilic surface on a substrate to provide the surface face with at least one layer which is alkali soluble at a pH in the range of about 6.0 to 14.0; (b) imaging the coated substrate electrostatically with a toner composition; (c) heating the imaged substrate a first time to a temperature greater than the glass transition temperature of the toner composition; (d) contacting the imaged substrate with an aqueous alkaline solution having a pH in the range of about 6.0 to about 14.0; and (e) heating the imaged substrate a second time to a temperature greater than the glass transition temperature of the toner composition. This printing plate is capable of long runs on press with good image quality and advantageously minimizes the occurrence of undesirable background toner “specking” on press. Accordingly, the printing plate is satisfactory for demanding printing tasks such as four-color newspaper printing, financial printing and the like.
