    • A method and system for establishing a connection link between a master device and a plurality of slave devices in a communications network having a plurality of frequency channels within a radio frequency band known as the unlicensed ISM band, wherein the connection links between the master device and the slave devices are capable of being carried out in a frequency-hopping fashion. The method comprises the steps of sending a link request to the master device requesting establishment of a non-frequency-hopping connection link between the master device and a slave device; establishing the non-frequency-hopping connection link as requested if the master device is able to select a communication channel for such a connection link; and establishing or maintaining the connection link in the frequency-hopping fashion if the master device is unable to select such a communication channel. In order to establish the non-frequency-hopping connection link, channel conditions including the carrier power of the channel and the interference and noise levels adversely affecting the connection link are measured.

    • A method, apparatus, and correspondingly configured computer program, in which a querying device inputs a user an identification of desired content and sends a query request for the desired content to surrounding memory devices. The query request is adapted to cause compatible receiving memory devices to perform a search based on the request. The memory devices are configured to listen to query requests and responsively perform searches based on the queries. Any memory device that finds content according to the query request responds to the query device which, after sending the query request, monitors for the compatible receiving memory devices for information that the queried content is found. Responsive to receiving the information from a given memory device, the querying device establishes a connection with the given memory device and obtains the content.

    • A plurality of polling response transmission times are allocated for a corresponding plurality of remote devices. The remote devices operate according to a first wireless transmission mode, such as Bluetooth LEE. These allocated polling response transmission times are outside of a time interval designated for communications according to a second wireless transmission mode, such as Bluetooth. Each of the polling response transmission times may be offset from a polling packet transmission time by a corresponding delay interval. In addition, a polling packet to the plurality of remote devices is transmitted, and one or more responses to the polling packet are received. Each of these responses is sent by one of the remote devices during its corresponding polling response transmission time. In addition, communications according to the second wireless transmission mode may be conducted during the designated time interval.
