    • Input and output cone discs are coaxially arranged. Power rollers are each operatively interposed between the input and output cone discs. Trunnions are rotatable supporting the power rollers respectively. An upper link has opposed ends to which upper ends of the trunnions are connected, and a lower link has opposed ends to which lower ends of the trunnions are connected. Shafts extend downward from the lower ends of the trunnions. Each shaft is connected to the corresponding lower end through a connecting pin. Pistons are associated with the shafts respectively. Each piston has a hollow boss portion which receives therein the corresponding shaft. The hollow boss portion has an upper end which faces toward the lower end of the corresponding trunnion. Articulated structures are associated with the trunnions respectively. Each articulated structure is arranged between the upper end of the hollow boss portion and the lower end of the corresponding trunnion, so that when a thrust force is applied to the trunnion in a direction to resiliently flex or bend the same, the trunnion is permitted to pivot relative to the hollow boss position in a direction to absorb the flex of the trunnion.

    • A continuously variable transmission comprises a transmission unit and a casing. The transmission unit includes input and output disks on a main shaft and friction rollers arranged around axes of the disks and supported by trunnions. For controlling the speed ratio of the disks, the trunnions are urged by pistons and moved synchronously along own swinging axes perpendicular to the rotating axes of the friction rollers. Neighboring ends of the trunnions are mutually connected by linkage members and pivotally supported by the casing. The pistons can be fitted into the casing 1 from the outer side thereof, and can be detachably connected to the trunnions in the casing. The transmission is provided with a linkage support member, which can be inserted in the casing from an end opening thereof and fixed thereto perpendicular to an axis of the casing. When assembling the transmission, the main shaft is passed through a penetrating hole of the linkage support member, and the linkage members are pivotally supported by the linkage support member. Then, the disks are tightened in mutually closing directions, forming a sub-assembly of the transmission unit 5 without the pistons. Then, the subassembly is inserted in the casing from the end opening thereof and fixed to the casing perpendicularly thereto, while the pistons are fitted into the casing from the outer side thereof and connected to the trunnions of the subassembly in the casing respectively.

A speed ratio control device includes a speed ratio control valve for controlling a hydraulic pressure to be supplied to the hydraulic cylinder device. A step motor has an angular position determined in accordance with a speed ratio as instructed by the speed ratio control device, and serves to drive the valve sleeve in a predetermined axial direction. A low switch serves to stop the valve sleeve, and effects a changeover between different positions of the switch when the valve sleeve has reached a position where the speed ratio becomes the lowest.

    • A continuously variable transmission includes friction rollers which are arranged in a toroidal groove formed between input and output disks and rotatably supported by roller support members. Hydraulic cylinder units for axially driving the roller support members are applied with a hydraulic pressure which is controlled by a forward drive speed ratio control valve in a forward drive mode, and by a reverse drive speed ratio instruction valve in a reverse drive mode. A feedback mechanism includes a precession cam provided for only one of the roller support members, which is associated with two links. These links undergo swing movement in accordance with the rotation of the precession cam, with their one ends maintained in contact with respective cam surfaces. Another ends of the links perform feedback of the speed ratio to the forward drive speed ratio control valve and the reverse drive speed ratio instruction valve, respectively.

    • A toroidal continuously variable transmission has first coaxial toric input and output elements arranged opposite each other such that a first toric cavity is formed therebetween, and second coaxial toric input and output elements opposite each other such that a second toric cavity is formed therebetween. The first and second output discs are arranged between the first and second input discs. First traction rollers are disposed in the first toric cavity for the transmission of motion therebetween. Second traction rollers are disposed in the second toric cavity for the transmission of motion therebetween. Tensions sheets extend between and interconnect roller support structures for the first and second traction rollers. The tension sheets include a first tension sheet extending between and interconnecting the roller support structures for the first traction rollers, and a second tension sheet extending between and interconnecting the roller support structures for the second traction rollers. The first and second tension sheets each having a central portion and a guide structure associated therewith in the central portion thereof. Each of the guide structures includes a guide block. The guide blocks are not mounted directly to the transmission housing. A guide block support member is integral with the guide blocks and is mounted to the transmission housing for balancing forces applied to the guide blocks.
