    • Disclosed herein is a liquid crystal display apparatus in which a transmission region and a reflection region disposed in parallel. The apparatus includes first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates. The second substrate has at least a counter electrode, an interlayer insulating film and a pixel electrode for forming a fringe field for driving molecules of the liquid crystal. At least one parameter relating to the interlayer insulating film formed on the second substrate is set different between the transmission region side interlayer insulating film and the reflection region side interlayer insulating film so that driving voltages for the transmission and reflection regions are substantially equal to each other.

    • An active-matrix-type liquid crystal display device supplies signal potentials to signal lines of a liquid crystal display panel according to a time-division drive method using time-division switches. The low-level potential of select pulses to be supplied from a select pulse generating circuit to CMOS analog switches of the time-division switches is set to be lower than the low-level potential of a signal potential output from a horizontal drive circuit. With this arrangement, even if the signal potential of a non-selected signal line is decreased due to the crosstalk of a signal potential from a selected signal line to the non-selected signal line, the generation of insufficient contrast and non-uniformity of the luminance in the horizontal direction can be prevented. As a consequence, a high image quality is maintained.

    • A thin film of silicon is formed on an electrically insulating substrate, such as transparent quarts, by deposition, such as glow discharge or CVD method. The thin film of silicon thus formed normally does not have a monocrystalline structure, but, in this manner, the thin film of silicon can be formed on a relatively large surface area. The substrate having formed thereon the thin film is then placed on a support plate, preferably, of a silicon wafer, and, then, a blanket light irradiation is carried out by a plurality of tungsten halogen lamps. The light irradiated from the lamps is preferentially absorbed by the support plate of silicon wafer which is thus heated and then transfers heat to the thin film by conduction. Thus, the thin film is heated uniformly by heat conduction so that the thin film is heat treated, thereby obtaining a desired property. For example, the thin film is monocrystallized uniformly.
