    • A device incorporated in an image recorder for removing the curl of a recording sheet being transported along a transport path. A rotatable elastic roller is disposed on the transport path at the inner side with respect to the curl of the recording sheet. A rotatable pressing member has a polygonal cross-section and has a plurality of curved portions each having a particular radius of curvature on the periphery thereof. The pressing member is located at the outer side with respect to the direction of curl. The center of rotation of the pressing member is parallel to the center of rotation of the elastic roller. A fixing device fixes the pressing member in a position where one of the curved portions presses against the periphery of the elastic roller.

    • In copying apparatus having a magnification ratio varying device, wherein a photosensitive member in motion is exposed to an optical image of an original by slit exposing to form an electrostatic latent image thereon and the original scanning velocity is varied in accordance with the magnification ratio selected, it is necessary to effect registration of the forward end of the image of an original with the leading end of a photosensitive sheet or a transfer-printing sheet. The above-mentioned registration is effected by delivering a copy sheet after lapse of a predetermined period of time following the production of a detection signal by a detector, the above-mentioned predetermined period of time being varied in conformity with the selected one of magnification ratios.

    • In copying apparatus capable of producing a duplicate from an original by varying the size of the former from that of the latter, a change tends to occur in the exposure of an image forming surface when the rate of magnification or reduction is varied, with a result that the image forming surface is either overexposed or underexposed. To obviate this defect, a mirror is mounted in the vicinity of the original in such a manner that the distance between the mirror and the original and the length of a short side of the effective reflecting surface of the mirror corresponding to the width of a slit for exposing the image forming surface to the original are kept constant. By this arrangement, it is possible to keep constant at all times the exposure of the image forming surface, irrespective of a change in the rate of magnification or reduction.

    • A spongy roller is rotated so that the surface thereof is pressed against the surface of a photoconductive drum and moves in the opposite direction therefrom. A resilient blade is also pressed against the photoconductive drum downstream of the roller so as to define a trough therebetween into which is supplied a cleaning liquid. The roller and blade remove all residual toner substance from the drum which remains after development and transfer operations. The cleaning liquid is supplied only while the drum is being operatively rotated in a quantity sufficient to wash away substantially all removed toner substance from between the blade and the drum. The roller is large enough to absorb enough cleaning liquid to remain moist and prevent solidification of removed toner substance between the roller and the drum between copying operations and when the apparatus is shut down.
