    • An energization control device is provided to prevent rapid decrease of current which is flowing through each of phase coils of an electric motor. A time duration is divided into three stages which ranges from an initiation of the current supply to the phase coil to a termination of the current supply to the phase coil. At the first stage, the second stage, and the third stage, soft/hard chopping energization control, 0-volt energization, and duty chopping energization control, respectively, are made. Energizing the phase coil is made by way of a first switching element and a second switching element. At the first stage, depending on an actual current value being in excess of a target current value, either of or both of the first switching element and the second element are made OFF. At the second stage, while the second switching element is being made OFF, the second switching element is made ON. At third stage, while the second switching element is being made OFF, the first switching element is, at a duty cycle, made ON and OFF alternately in repetition.

    • In a chopping energization control device, a pair of switching elements IGBT/U and IGBT/L are used to control an electric power supplied from a DC power source to a phase coil CL1 of a DC motor, particularly an SR motor, such that one of the switching elements is alternately turned on-and-off while the other is being turned on continually. To avoid uneven heat generations between the switching elements, an arrangement is provided wherein whenever a time elapses beyond a limit value of, for example, 10 milliseconds the conditions of the respective switching elements are swapped with each other. Such a swapping is established cyclically which causes equal heat generations in the switching elements.

    • During the idling state, the number of times of injecting fuel per performance of the fuel delivery from a high-pressure fuel pump is decreased or increased. If the number of times of injecting fuel per performance of the fuel delivery is decreased, the amount of fuel that needs to be delivered by one performance of the fuel delivery is reduced, so that the timing of starting to close an electromagnetic spill valve can be delayed. Therefore, the lift of a plunger for 1° rotation of a cam (i.e., cam speed) at the time of closure of the electromagnetic spill valve decreases, so that the force applied from fuel to the electromagnetic spill valve in the valve closing direction decreases. If the number of times of injecting fuel per performance of the fuel delivery is increased, the noises produced at the time of closure of the electromagnetic spill valve increase because the timing of starting to close the spill valve is advanced to increase the amount of fuel delivered by one performance of the fuel delivery. However, the number of times of closing the electromagnetic spill valve during a predetermined period decreases, so that the number of occurrences of the valve closure noises decreases.

    • An energization control device for an electric motor includes: a rotor angle sensor for detecting a motor rotational angle; a current sensor for detecting a current flowing through a phase coil; a control data storage device for storing therein a plurality of control data items in map format which correspond to rotational conditions of the rotor; and a control device for controlling the energization of the phase coil. The control device obtains first control data items for deriving a first torque from the motor and second control data items for a second torque, when a target torque is intended to be derived from the motor which is smaller and larger than the first torque and the second torque, respectively. The control device, when establishing an energization control for deriving the target torque from the motor, uses the first control data item and the second control data item in such a manner that a ratio of the second control data item to the first control data item is the ratio of a first deviation between the first torque and the target torque to a second deviation between the target torque and the second torque.

    • A cylinder screw is fitted around an injector axially movably between a tapered surface and a flange. The cylinder screw presses down the flange in a direction to attach the injector to a cylinder head and presses up the tapered surface in a direction to detach the injector from the cylinder head. A stopper is formed annularly at the top of the injector and has a protrusion. With the protrusion being engaged in a positioning groove of the cylinder head, the injector is restricted from being turned in both rotating directions. Thus, the injector can be attached to and detached from the cylinder head with ease by only one cylinder screw without turning the injector. The flange of a retaining nut to which the tightening force of the cylinder screw exerts has a shortened axial length so that deformation in injector constituting members is reduced and changes in the fuel injection characteristics are reduced.
