    • Methods of using relative permeability modifiers for the diversion of aqueous fluids during subterranean operations are provided. An embodiment of the present invention provides a method of diverting fluids in a subterranean formation that may comprise providing a treatment fluid comprising an aqueous fluid and a relative permeability modifier that comprises water-soluble polymer with hydrophobic or hydrophilic modification; introducing the treatment fluid into a well bore that penetrates the subterranean formation; and at least a first portion of the treatment fluid to penetrate into a portion of the subterranean formation so as to substantially divert a second portion of the treatment fluid or another aqueous treatment fluid to another portion of the subterranean.

    • Method of diverting fluids in a subterranean formation including the steps of providing a first fluid comprising an aqueous fluid and a hydrophobically modified water-soluble relative permeability modifier; introducing the first fluid into a well bore such that the first treatment fluid penetrates into a portion of the subterranean formation in a sufficient amount so as to substantially divert a second treatment fluid to another portion of the subterranean formation. Then, a second aqueous fluid is introduced into the well bore and substantially diverted from the portion of the subterranean formation penetrated with the first treatment fluid. In some cases, a well treatment operation, such as acid stimulation operation, a clay stabilization operation, or a scale inhibition operation, is performed using the second fluid.

    • The present invention provides a method of stimulating a subterranean formation penetrated by a well. The formation has a water-bearing section and a hydrocarbon-bearing section. The method includes the steps of: (a) introducing into the formation an aqueous treatment fluid containing a hydrophobically-modified relative permeability modifier, and (b) introducing an acidizing treatment fluid into the formation. The hydrophobically-modified RPM can be formed and introduced into the formation in several ways. For example, the hydrophobically-modified RPM can be the reaction product of a hydrophilic polymer and a hydrophobic compound that are capable of reacting with each other. The hydrophilic polymer is a polymer containing reactive amino groups in the polymer backbone or as pendant groups, which are capable of reacting with a hydrophobic alkyl halide compound. The hydrophobically-modified RPM can include, for example, a polymer of DMAEMA quaternized with an alkyl halide, wherein the alkyl halide has an alkyl chain length of 6 to 22 carbons.

    • The present invention relates to methods useful during sand control operations and, more particularly, to using water-soluble relative permeability modifiers that are useful for controlling fluid loss during sand control operations. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of providing fluid loss control during sand control operations comprising introducing a fluid that comprises a water-soluble relative permeability modifier into a well bore; and stabilizing unconsolidated formation particulates in a section of a subterranean formation penetrated by the well bore. In other embodiments, the present invention provides methods of providing fluid loss control during sand control operations and methods of reducing fluid loss from carrier fluids used in sand control operations.
