摘要： An information processing apparatus comprises: a memory to store emulation information which is designated from a host computer that is connected to a printer via a general parallel interface; a judging circuit to judge a delimiter of print data; and a control unit to switch the emulation on the basis of the emulation information stored in the memory and the result of the judgment by the judging circuit. When each section of the apparatus is in the inoperative state, they are set into the power saving mode and are sequentially controlled. Thus, the power saving of the whole apparatus can be realized.

摘要： A host device logs in a printer as a print data transfer destination to acquire type information of the printer and issues SB_CONT.req to determine whether a cycle master necessary for isochronous transfer is present on a serial bus. The print data transfer mode and transfer parameter are set in accordance with the presence/absence of the cycle master and the acquired type information. If the cycle master is present on the serial bus, isochronous transfer is set as the transfer mode; otherwise, asynchronous transfer is set as the transfer mode. Therefore, even when devices without any cycle master function are connected, or no cycle master is present on the bus, print data can be transferred from the host device to the printer.

摘要： In data transmission between a host device and a target device connected by a serial bus, when commands and data use the same register area, and only the transmission result of the data is to be returned, any command other than a data transmission command cannot be transmitted for a certain period because the receiving-side register becomes full. In this invention, when a response to a data transmission command from the host device is to be returned from the target device, the host device is notified of the situation of the data receiving buffer. The host device transmits a DUMMY command to the target device in accordance with the free buffer situation and transmits another command to the target device in accordance with the response from the target device. The target device sends a data retransmission request to the host device in accordance with the free buffer situation. The host device retransmits a data transmission command in accordance with the retransmission request and transmits another command to the target device in accordance with the response from the target device.

The configuration ROM of the printer stores information about devices mountable on the apparatus. The host computer accesses the configuration ROM via the communication bus to acquire information in a Feature Directory. The Feature Directory stores information about optional devices connectable to the printer. Information about the printer is displayed based upon information acquired from the Feature Directory. This allows the user to easily grasp information about devices mountable on the apparatus.
