摘要： A housing case for a tape cassette, including a main body, a lid pivoted to the main body at one edge and an index card for indicating various items on the tape cassette, said index card being inserted along the inner surface of the lid, said lid including a flat portion 19, a step portion 23 and a recess portion 21 for receiving a thick portion of the tape cassette. the step portion 23 is provided with at least one retainer lug 31 consisting of a slanted surface extending from, and away from the plane of, the inner surface of the flat portion in the direction of the insertion and a surface extending from the distal end of the slanted surface in the direction substantially normal to said flat portion 19, and said index card is provided with at least one opening for receiving the retainer lug 31. The construction makes it easy to insert the index card which is then held securely in position.

The magnetic tape cassette is so constructed that an elastic pad element which is formed into a dogleg shape is supported at the bent portion thereof on a support rod arranged in a casing and a first section of the elastic pad element extending between the support rod and one end of the pad element is arranged so as to extend substantially in the tangential direction of a tape guide roller at the position of the guide roller at which a holding portion of the elastic pad element acts on the guide roller. The first section may be arranged in proximity to the portion of the magnetic tape between the one reel and the guide roller when the holding portion is defined in such a manner as in a conventional magnetic tape cassette typically constructed.

The holding section is formed at a position downward apart from the projection and vertically opposite to a lock pawl engaged with the front lid with the projection being interposed therebetween. The lock lever regulating mechanism is constituted by a combination of a position regulating rib provided at the casing and a guide groove formed at the lock lever.

摘要： When a guide wall formed in the lower casing of a tape cassette housing for guiding a brake release member is extended upward into the upper casing, the corresponding part of the upper casing must be cut off to provide a recess. The recess, located in the central part of the upper casing, reduces the structural strength of the upper casing. Also there are problems of deformation of the cassette wall parts subject to the urging of the spring member and development of a gap between the mating edges of the upper and lower casings during storage at elevated temperature. The present invention is directed to the solution of the problems.In a tape cassette which includes a housing comprised of upper and lower casings, a pair of tape reels turnably held in the housing, and a brake mechanism comprising reel brake members and a brake release member all of which are located in the front part of the housing and between the pair of tape reels, in an arrangement such that, when the cassette is not in use, the brake members are urged by a spring member in directions where they are in mesh with serrated flange peripheries of the reels and, when the cassette is used, the release member is forced upward against the spring force by a brake release pin and the brake members cooperatively swing out of mesh with the serrated flange peripheries of the reels, setting the tape reels free to turn; a guide wall for guiding the release member for upward and downward movement is formed in one piece with the lower casing, with the upper part of the guide wall being overlapped with a corresponding part of the upper casing. A solid joint part for securing the upper and lower casings together is provided in the vicinity of the region where the release lever moves upward and downward along the front wall.

The brake mechanism and a brake lock release member disposed between it and the hub remain in sliding engagement after the release of the brake, and the resulting friction hampers smooth turning of the hub. Moreover, after the brake lock has been released, the center of the tape reel can be off the center of a rotating shaft of a recorder. The hub of the tape reel has holes formed in its bottom wall for engagement with the brake release plate, the brake release plate is mounted in the hub with legs fitted in the holes of the latter, the brake lock rests on the brake release plate, the brake lock is formed with a dent (or lug) with a spherical end and the brake release plate is formed with a corresponding lug (or dent) with a spherical end on its upper surface. A highly slippery sheet member is interposed between the contacting parts of the brake lock and the brake release plate.
