摘要： A novel all-plastic optical fiber comprising core and clad components which is tough, flexible, and which has a low transmission loss, wherein the core component is composed of a homopolymer or copolymer of a monomer selected from one or more monomers represented by the general formula (I), or a copolymer of the at least one monomer represented by the general formula (I) and other copolymerizable comonomers and which has a glass transition temperature Tg.sub.1 .degree. C.; and wherein the clad component is composed of a copolymer of perfluoro[2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxol] and one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and which has a glass transition temperature Tg.sub.2 .degree. The cladding composition comprises (A) a fluorinated monofunctional acrylate or .alpha.-fluoroacrylate composition, (B) a polyfunctional acrylate or .alpha.-fluoroacrylate having at least two acryloyl or .alpha.-fluoroacryloyl radicals in the molecule, (C) a photoinitiator, and if desired, (D) a stabilizer selected from thiodicarboxylic acid diesters and hindered phenols. The fluorinated monofunctional acrylate or .alpha.-fluoroacrylate comprises 1-60 weight % of a highly fluorinated acrylate or .alpha.-fluoroacrylate of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Y is H or F, X is H or F, l is 1 to 12 and n is 5 to 12, and 40-99 weight % of a lowly fluorinated acrylate or .alpha.-fluoroacrylate of the formula: ##STR2## wherein X and Y are as defined above, and m is 1 to 3.

摘要： A methacrylimide group-containing polymer having good optical characteristics, especially a resistance to coloration under heating and above to retain good light-transmitting characteristics for a long time even at a high temperature, is prepared by polymerizing methacrylic acid, a methacrylic acid ester, or a monomer mixture predominantly comprised of methacrylic acid or an ester thereof in the absence of a mercaptan chain transfer agent, and then imidizing the thus-prepared polymer. The resulting polymer is useful as the core component of a light-transmitting fiber having a core-sheath structure.
