    • Disclosed is a method of requesting bandwidth allocation by an MS having at least two CIDs in a communication system, the method including the steps of detecting at least one CID needing the bandwidth allocation; when a plurality of CIDs are detected, generating a grant management subheader including a region for recording the total number of the CIDs needing bandwidth allocation and a region for recording bandwidth information of a generic MAC header CID, and a grant management subheader including, for each of the CIDs needing bandwidth allocation, other than the generic MAC header CID, a region for recording the order of a corresponding CID given in a MS CID list and a region for recording bandwidth information of the corresponding CID; and transmitting the generic MAC header with the grant management subheaders concatenated thereto to a BS.

    • A method and apparatus for requesting bandwidth allocation and allocating a bandwidth in response to the request in a communication system are provided, in which an mobile station detects a second CID requiring bandwidth allocation, the second CID being different from a first CID included in a MAC header, generates a grant management subheader including an order field and a bandwidth field, the order field being for writing a rank of the second CID in a CID list listing CIDs of the mobile station according to a predetermined criterion and the bandwidth field being for writing a bandwidth required for the second CID, concatenates the grant management subheader to the MAC header, and transmits the concatenated MAC header and grant management subheader to a base station to request bandwidth allocation for the second CID.

    • An apparatus and method for allocating an identifier of a Base Station (BS) in a communication system are provided. The method includes determining a Physical Cell Identification (PCI) allocation range using Physical Cell Identifiers (PCIDs) of adjacent macro BSs located within a predetermined distance from a target macro BS, the PCI allocation range including PCIDs substantially allocable to at least one micro BS installed in a service area of the target macro BS, determining a PCI broadcast range using the PCI allocation range, the PCI broadcast range including PCIDs exclusively allocated to the at least one micro BS, and broadcasting the PCI broadcast range to Mobile Stations (MSs) located in the service area.
