The booster of the invention includes shut-off means (16, 51) with controlled opening, installed between the second source of pressure (A) and the inside (50) of the piston and controlling an air intake path (15) which connects the second chamber (3b) to the second source of pressure (A) avoiding passing through the filter (14) and the valve (7), and elastic means (17) which are sensitive to a difference in pressure between the inside of the piston and the second source of pressure, in order to allow selectively the opening of the shut-off means when this pressure difference exceeds a given threshold.

The plunger (28) sliding in a bore (26) in the movable partition (12). The three way valve further including a valve member (36) disposed in a tubular rear part (22) of the movable partition (12) and co-operating through an annular front face (40) with a first valve seat (28a) formed on the plunger (28) and with a second valve seat (20a,20b) formed on the movable partition (12). The tubular part (22) having a space (35) located between the first (40) and second (20a,20b) valve seats and communicating with at least one radial passage (34) formed in the movable partition (12) which opens out into the second chamber (16). The tubular part (22) has at least one axial passage (37) which opens into the first chamber (14). The annular front face (40) of the valve member is urged in the direction of the first and second valve seats by a valve spring (42). The second valve seat (20,20b) being characterised by a surface formed on the movable partition (12) by bringing together at least two circular arcs (20a,20b) which are concentric, coplanar and of different radii.

The three-way valve (36) is actuated by a control rod (30) capable of bearing via a front face of a plunger (28) on a rear face of a push rod (48) secured to a reaction disk (49). The plunger (28) slides in a bore (26) of the moving wall structure (12) in response to an input force applied by an operator. The three-way valve (36) includes a valve element (36) located in a tubular rear part (22) of the moving wall structure (12) and interacts via with a first annular region (40l) of an annular front face (40) with a first annular valve seat (28a) formed on the plunger (28) and via a second annular region (40e) of the annular front face (40) with a second annular valve seat (20a) formed on the moving wall structure (12). The first valve seat (28a) is concentric with the second valve seat (20a) and of a smaller diameter. The annular front face (40) of the valve element is urged toward the annular valve seats (20a, 28a) by a valve spring (42) and is reinforced by a rigid annular insert (46,46'; 56,56'). The rigid annular insert (46,56) is situated axially behind just one (40e) of the regions (40e, 40i) via which the annular front face (40) of the valve element (36) interacts with one (20a) of the annular valve (20a, 28a).

On opening of the second flap (19) allows the pressurized assist fluid is initially communicated to the thrust chamber (41) and only after a predetermined travel of the control rod (13) is the pressurized assist fluid communicated to the second chamber (7) for creating a pressure differential between the fluid in the first chamber (3) and second chamber (7) to develop an output force to effect a brake application. On termination of the input force to the control rod (13) the lip (35) provides for one-way isolation to permit the discharge of the assistance fluid from second chamber (7) to allow for equalization of fluid pressure in the first (3) and second (7) chambers.
