    • A vehicle seat belt tightening system for taking up slack from a seat belt in high acceleration or deceleration condition to positively restrain a vehicle occupant but otherwise permitting the seat belt to be paid out to accommodate a movement of the vehicle occupant, comprising: a retractor unit comprising a winding spool, a seat belt tightening unit arranged at a seat belt outlet end of the retractor unit, a drive unit for selectively activating the seat belt tightening unit, and a deceleration detection unit for acting upon the seat belt tightening unit, which are integrally mounted on a common frame. Thus, the reliability of the system is improved and the installing and the servicing of the system is simplified. In particular, the operation reliability may be improved if the reverse rotation of the seat belt tightening unit is prevented by a ratchet mechanism in which a ratchet wheel received in a mutually spaced relationship in an opening provided with inner ratchet teeth and the ratchet wheel is adapted to be displaced into meshing engagement with the inner ratchet teeth of the opening when the ratchet wheel is pulled by tension from the seat belt.

    • A deceleration sensor, comprising a pair of U-shaped pendulums pivotally suspended from upper parts of a casing at their upper ends by way of pivot shafts extending in parallel with each other, one of the pendulums being received by the other in such a manner that they are permitted to pivot around their respective pivot shafts without interfering with each other, a pair of biasing springs for opposing movement of the pendulums against their inertia forces, a firing pin slidably received in the guide bore, a drive spring urging the firing pin toward a fuse which is intended to be activated by the deceleration sensor, a swing arm which is pivotally attached to the sensor casing at its one end and engaged by one of the pendulums at its other end; and a trigger arm which is pivotally attached to a middle part of the swing arm so as to be able to swing in a same plane as the swing arm, and is engaged by the other of the pendulumns at its one end and engages the firing pin against the spring force of the drive spring at its other end. Thus, the firing pin can be activated when at least one of the pendulums is activated by its inertia so as to disengage the swing arm or the trigger arm therefrom, and a high reliability can be achieved with a simple and compact structure.

    • A lock structure for a seat slide device for a vehicle seat having a first and a second rail which are parallel to each other and mutually slidable, and in particular to such a lock device which can lock up at any slide position. This can be accomplished by varying the pitch of the lock holes and the lock teeth from each other as opposed to the case of conventional lock structures in which lock teeth and lock holes are provided at the same pitch. The various approaches proposed by the present application include the use of the principle of a vernier caliper, varying the phase relationship of the lock teeth relative to the lock holes, and using evenly spaced lock teeth in combination with lock holes provided at a pitch which is a multiple of the pitch of the lock teeth. Since the seat slide device can lock up at any arbitrary slide position, not only the adjustment of seat slide position is facilitated but also secure locking will be assured when it is used in a slave seat slide device which is to be actuated at the same time as a master seat device without unduly increasing the rigidity of the general seat support structure.

    • An electric lock comprising a solenoid which has a permanent magnet for attracting a plunger and an electromagnetic coil which is positioned adjacent the permanent magnet so as to control the magnetic flux of the permanent magnet. A cam member which has a cam surface formed at one end thereof engages an engaging pin when a bolt operating member is rotated so as to lock the electric lock so that an engaging rod is forced to move in the direction opposite to the direction in which an engaging bolt is biased, the other end of the engaging rod being connected to the plunger of the solenoid. A positive voltage application unit responds to an unlocking signal so as to temporarily cause a current to flow through the electromagnetic coil in such a way that the flux produced by the electromagnetic coil cancels the magnetic flux produced by the permanent magnet.

    • A board suitable for use as a front cover of a vehicle instrument panel. The board consists of a transparent plate and an opaque shade film which is bonded to a major surface of the transparent plate and is formed with a number of substantially uniformly distributed light-transmitting holes. To adequately limit diffusion of light transmitted from the shade film side, the holes are designed such that the ratio of the hole diameter to the hole depth, i.e. shade film thickness, is greater than 0.23 and smaller than 0.5 and that the ratio of the hole diameter to the distance of each hole form every adjacent hole is greater than 1.2 and smaller than 25. The exposed front surface of the transparent plate is finished to a surface roughness of 0.15-0.40 micron so as to become a difusely reflective surface to thereby prevent undesirable reflection of extraneous light such as sunlight from this surface. The holed shade film is usually formed by using a photosensitive resin and is preferably matte-finished at least in its inner surfaces defining the respective light-transmitting holes.
