    • As a novel substance is provided such a new, crystalline substance of Cefditoren povoxyl which has a high purity and an enhanced thermal stability on storage. This crystalline Cefditoren pivoxyl may be prepared by a process comprising a step of dissolving amorphous substance of Cefditoren pivoxyl in an anhydrous, first organic solvent capable of dissolving said amorphous substance well therein, and steps of replacing the first organic solvent component of the resulting solution by an anhydrous alkanol of 1 to 5 carbon atoms as a second organic solvent, in such a manner that the firstly prepared solution of Cefditoren pivoxyl in the first organic solvent is mixed with a volume of the alkanol and then is concentrated below 15° C. under reduced pressure, and so on. Thereby, the process proceeds so as to produce a solution containing 50 mg/ml to 250 mg/ml of Cefditoren pivoxyl dissolved in the alkanol alone. From the latter solution, crystals of Cefditoren pivoxyl are induced to deposit by addition of water at a temperature of 0-10° C. The resulting admixture of the concentrated solution of Cefditoren pivoxyl in alkanol with added water and the deposited Cefditoren pivoxyl is then agitated 10° C. or below, to effect a complete crystallization of Cefditoren pivoxyl.

    • A development apparatus for developing a latent image formed on an image forming body with a developer so as to obtain a toner image. A developer conveyance unit conveys the developer, including a toner, to a development zone, between the developer conveyance unit and the image forming body, from an upstream side of the development zone in a conveyance direction to a downstream side thereof. A plate member having an electrode portion is positioned at the upstream side of the development zone, wherein a downstream end portion of the plate member is positioned in contact with the development zone. A power supply unit applies a first voltage, including a DC component and an AC component, to the developer conveyance unit so that an electric field is generated at the development zone. The power supply unit applies a second voltage, including a DC component, to the electrode portion of the plate member, and the plate member controls the electric field with the second voltage. The development apparatus satisfies: V.sub.AC >.vertline.V.sub.DEN .vertline.-.vertline.V.sub.DC .vertline. when an amplitude of the AC component of the first voltage is defined as V.sub.AC (volts), the DC component of the first voltage is defined as V.sub.DC (volts), and the DC component of the second voltage is defined as V.sub.DEN (volts). The development apparatus satisfies: 10.multidot..vertline.Qt.vertline..multidot.d.sub.t .multidot.D.sub.1 >V.sub.AC >5.multidot..vertline.Qt.vertline..multidot.d.sub.t .multidot.D.sub.2 when a closest distance from the developer conveyance unit to the image forming body is defined as D.sub.1 (mm), a closest distance from the developer conveyance unit to the electrode portion is defined as D.sub.2 (mm), an average charge-to-mass of the toner is defined as Qt (.mu.C/g), and an average particle size of the toner is defined as dt (.mu.m).

    • A variable resistor for use in a frequency regulator comprises an actuator having an intermediate portion pivotally supported by a casing, and a pair of opposite actuating end portions exposed from the casing. A pair of opposite feed pawls depend from the actuator to engage a rotor pivotally supported by the casing between the opposite feed pawls. The rotor has on peripheral edges thereof teeth meshing with the feed pawls, and carries a slider. A resistor base plate is mounted on the casing and has an arcuate resistor layer facing the slider of the rotor. The actuator is angularly movable in response to depression of one at a time of the actuating end portions thereof for turning the rotor in one direction through meshing engagement between the feed pawls and the teeth to thereby cause the slider to slide on the arcuate resistor layer. Therefore, the resistance of the variable resistor can be varied simply by pushing the actuator angularly back and forth. The variable resistor also includes a first light-emitting element for indicating operation of the variable resistor and a second light-emitting element for indicating an angular position of the rotor.

    • The fixing apparatus fixes a toner image on a transfer material by applying heat and pressure onto the transfer material. It uses a roll-shaped rotary member for applying heat. The roll-shaped rotary member has a ray radiating device for radiating heat rays inside a cylindrical ray-transmitting base member. A cylindrical ray-transmitting elastic/insulating layer is on the base member and a heat ray absorbing layer is provided on the elastic/insulating layer. The difference between the heat ray absorbing ratio (%) per unit thickness (mm) in the base member and that in the ray-transmitting elastic/insulating layer is made not more than 20%. The fluctuations of thickness in the base member and the elastic/insulating layer are equal to, or not more than, 0.1 mm.
