    • A method for establishing an authenticated network connection in a packet-switched network with an electronic equipment, the method including transmitting a request from an electronic equipment through a packet-switched network connection to an authentication server. The authentication server generates a first unique identifier and transmits the first unique identifier to the electronic equipment through the packet-switched network connection. The electronic then transmits a message from the electronic equipment to a short message service (SMS) server through a circuit-switched network connection, wherein the message includes the first unique identifier and a second unique identifier (e.g., a telephone number of the electronic device). The message is routed to the authentication server and authenticated. After authentication, the electronic equipment may utilize a packet-switched connection for a variety of communication services (e.g., chat sessions, voice over Internet Protocol) with other authenticated electronic equipment.

    • An improved system and method is disclosed for providing a user with detailed information about a particular location where the user is present. In one embodiment, a user may take a video of the location where the user is present. The user's video may be transmitted to a network server, which performs a video recognition algorithm to match the video to a location about which information is contained in a location information database. The user may then be connected to a network dataset, such as a webpage or webpages, associated with the location. In other embodiments, locality information comprising location identifiers may be obtained or transmitted from the location to a user's portable electronic device. The locality information may be transmitted to a network server, which matches the locality information against a location information database to identify the location. Once the user's location is matched to location information within the database, detailed information about the location may be transmitted directly to the user's portable electronic device.

    • The invention relates to a needle insertion device comprising a housing with a mounting surface adapted for application to the skin of a subject, where the mounting surface defines a general plane and has a needle aperture formed therein. Adhesive means is arranged on the mounting surface for adhering the insertion device to the skin of the subject, the adhesive means surrounding the needle aperture. A needle comprises a distal pointed end adapted to penetrate the skin of the subject, the pointed end being arranged within the housing in respect of the general plane. The mounting surface surrounding the needle aperture is moveable between a first position in which the pointed end of the needle is arranged within the housing, and a second position in which the pointed end of the needle projects through the needle aperture, thereby pulling the skin portion corresponding to the intended site of needle insertion against the needle.
